Ok I just instaled a aem with a BRAND NEW wiring harness on my 180sx black top.got it running but I cant get #3 to get spark...coil 3 works...checked and I was getting 12 volts at the coil plug ..I was getting ground at the coil plug...I'm getting continuity on the signal wire from coil plug to igniter plug also from the other igniter plug to ecu pin 5..if I switch pin 1(coil 1 output) with pin5(coil3 out put) coil 1 still fires but coil 3 still doen't fire so that rules out my aem. I am using a Q45 igniter (the small black kind not the one with the fins on it) I have also tried 2 igniters and i get the same results. Is there any wiring reqired with the q45 ingiter that plugs directly into the sr harness???? I kept thinking that if it was wired incorrectly it wounld'nt run on the other 3 cylinders...I am at my wits end i'm soooooooo stumped please help me I have to get it running so I can get it tuned this weekend the guy only comes down once in a while.

I swaped the wires in both of the igniter plugs (coil 1 wire pinned to coil 3 and coil3 wire pinned to coil 1 and the problem moved to coil 1)...but on the bright side at least i'm getting fire on #3 now. lol

assuming the pinouts are the same on both style q45 ignitors....

One of the ignitor channels for the coil might be damaged. Try another ignitor.

Well I knew the problem was related to the igniter chip...the ignitersare the most sophisticated devises on a car lol I went back to a fin type q45 igniter and I figured out that the heavy throttle diagram was only usefull to me to show corisponding wire inputs via color and output to coil but the input to the igniter was different ..I think b/c my ecu pin outs were different and I had done some re-pinning to make my aem work so long story short its running on 4 thanx for all the help...:coold:
