i want to get my block a head cleaned up before i put it back together. on a SR20 how much can safely be taken from the head and block before it starts messing with the cam timing? or do they really even take that much off on a resurface?

they dont take off much to make a difference, usually just a few thousanths of an inch. unless the head was insanely warped

Or if you have had to deck it a couple times. I've had pistons crush a spark plug after resurfacing an SR head. I have no idea how many times it had been resurfaced before, but one too many apparently. ;)

Surfacing should be about $30-50. Depending on shop.

The FSM should tell you how much you can safely shave off.
When I took my motor to the machine shop they just did a mirror polish on the head and left it at that.
I think I paid about $40 for that. Prices vary.
