I just recently bought a 89 coupe with a sr20 in it. The guy i bought it from was trying to do the wiring all himself. I asked him when he bought it if he had any wiring experience. He told me no he just kind of jumped into thinking he could. That was about 4 years ago. Anyway the fuel pump is rigged somehow with a switch inside the car that i have to turn on before i start the motor. The bad thing is the fuel pump wont shut off it stays full blast the whole time. If i turn the fuel pump off with the switch the car runs for about 3 more seconds then dies. I took it to a shop. They said it shouldn't do that but i need to address other issues first such as i need a new MAF(hoping to go z32) and i need new intercooler piping. I don't know anything about wiring i have a couple of friends who do but not enough to wire a whole car or anything. I was just hoping someone ran into this problem and coud give me a head start on finding the problem.

for hack jobs like this... you really need to bring it to a person who is knowledgeable in wiring.
guys could shout possibilities all day long as what it could be, but you really need to look at the car and trace the signal until you find the problem.
if that garage wont do it...and is instead trying to suck money out of you for other problems, take it to a shop that will do what you want, and not try to force you to do other shit.
good luck.

check all the wiring behind the battery tray(pss. fenderish) and see whats going on there theres usually 2 plugs a grey one and a brownish one alot of the times people try to re-pin the plugs or splice wires wrong, happened to me and i had to go back and fix it and learn. but if its before those two plugs somewhere else in the car im not sure. good luck, i hate wiring.

the car shouldn't die the moment the fuel pump is cut off.
the car shouldn't die the moment the fuel pump is cut off.
Werd. The motor will just burn up the remaining fuel and then die.
Rewiring the fuel pump circuit entirely is your best bet. I wouldn't want to try to trace someone else's shit wiring job and attempt to troubleshoot.
You need to look at an FSM and search for fuel pump threads. You'll need a universal relay. The ECU sends a ground signal to trigger the relay and switch on the fuel pump.
Good luck.
