your supposed to have the ignitor chip strapped into somewhere secure where its not goig to move and exposed to a lot of heat basiclly.

On the USDM chassis the ignitor mounts to the side of the passenger side strut tower. The factory plate won't bolt up directly, so you have rig/fab/ghetto on up.
Like he said ^ make sure it is sercurely mounted and not exposed to heat. Which it shouldn't be considering it's on the intake side.

Yup exactly, and how the hell did you get it up on your valve cover? The wires arent even that long.

Yep me too mine is hanging out of my kick panel so when I turn the car off to get out I disconnect and take it with me. Only this is sometimes I forget to bring it to the car with me so I start cranking and nothing, then I have to go all the way back up to my apartment to get it......:smash:

Yeah I've thought about that but I guess it would be easier to replace an ignitor than my whole car.

Dont mount that shit... leave it easily accessible so it can be your overnight anti theft device =p

route it into the cabin

if you put it under the hood and you're having heat related issues with it get a heatsink (like one off a computers video card) and mount it to the metal side, it will help cool it off alot, simple cheap mod if you need it to cool down a bit..... And i think other anti-theft devices are a bit easier to use and just as safe... fuel cutoff switch, QR steering wheel, starter relay kill... etc.... it seems like that would both suck to remove/replace every time you get out of your car, and may eventually wear out or damage the connections

i extended mine into the cabin as well (behind the ecu) makes the harness look a lot cleaner in the bay

Exactly, I knew there had to be more people.

Like many others on here have said-
Run it inside your cabin and keep it as easy anti-theft device. Trust me your typical car jacker does not carry an sr/q45 or other ignitor chip with them.

Yep, same here.

only set back to routing inside the cabin is
1. Loosing the chip
2. Connections detaching after removing it frequently so much.
both have happened to me.

what? the ignitor isn't a CPU :P
heat doesn't do anything to ignitor chips or ecu.
just have it mounted anywhere on the harness or make a bracket and mount it on the shock tower; so it can look clean and stock.

just because it's in the cabin doesnt mean you have to remove it all the time... i never take my chip with me just put it there to clean up my harness

a simple search would show some southern state SR'ed'ers having heat related issues with their Igniter too close to a heat source i.e. oil filter relocation-right by pass. strut tower-, or block/ambient temps under the hood.

yea too close to fire doesn't sound too good.
the ignitor chip sits on a shock tower STOCK. i dont see how it has any problems with heat.
on the q45, skyline, etc, it sits on top of the motor's head for crying out loud.

the sr ignitor chip does tend to get hot man.. it has happened to me since mines located on the engine bay i should have had it in the cabin like the other peeps but whateva :2f2f:
