I know there are tons of threads about stretching tires and even a few I found on the widest tire for XX setup.

But I figured I would post up to see if anyone had suggestions before I ordered up some new tires.

I am picking up 18x9.5 + 20 (rota torque-r) in the rears and 18x8.5 +25 (rota torque) in the front fairly soon. I am looking to run some DRs in the back since I make a pretty good amount of power, and I want to actually be able to use it. The car is primarily a straight line car.

It's a kouki S14 with a small roll/pull in the back and completely stock fenders up front. It has Tein SS coilovers. Not that it really matters but I have S15 brakes all around.

So originally I planned to run 245/40/18 Nitto 555s up front with 285/35/18 Nitto 555rs out back.

From all my searching it *looks* like everything should fit. I am fairly confident that the 245s will fit upfront especially with the +25 offset. In the back I am a bit more worried. My other options out back would be 275/35/18 BFG DRs, or even Mickey ET streets in 265/40/18.

Any opinions?

take some measurements. I think 285's should fit, but i don't know how much your fenders have been pulled. I run 17x9+38's with 255's and based off my measurements 275's will fit and possibly even 285's, so based on that I would estimate you need about a .5-1" more clearance from your pull to fit those with your rims and not have to run traction hurting negative camber. Your best bet though might be to go with a smaller tire first and then take some more measurements and go from there (especially since this info I've give is just me roughly estimating off the top of my head). As far as the fronts go, they will be fine, I run a 235/40 on a 17x8+25 and I have room enough to go to a 245/40.

285 will be a bit bulged on a 9.5" wheel, 275 is the reccomended size for a 9.5" wheel. Honestly though man for straight line a little bulge is good as you will have more sidewall flex. 245's will fir pretty prefect, nice and square, on a 8.5" wheel. It is a good idea to get one size shorter sidewalls in the front if you can as clearence may be an issue depending on how low you want to go.

Just read over that thread... Awesome info in there! For a while I thought I was the only one that wasn't into the JDM stretch.

Golfer:
Thanks a bunch for the info! I was still a little worried about the front but that pretty much solidifies it, especially since the Nittos usually run a little narrow anyways. As for the rears, I am pretty sure I will just pull the trigger on the 285s, at least then I can get a little tread life out of the Nittos and still be able to have some decent traction when off full slicks. I really wish I could, like you said, start with a 275 and step up from there, but honestly at over $200 a tire I don't really want to spend it if I dont have to.

The guy before me actually did the pull and when I looked at it it looked like about a 10mm pull or so, nothing too drastic. So I'll order up the 285s and if need be find someone local with a roller and pull it a bit more.

Racepar:

Yup... There will be a bit of bulge (although not too bad since most manufacturers spec the minimum width at 9.5" for a 285), but it should easily be safe... and like you said I don't mind a little sidewall flex for the straights.

As for the fronts, I'll take a look at the 35 series as well. Thanks!
