s13 sr Temperature gague question.

Ok I Hope that some one will be able to help me out on this.

my temp gague is up and down, it works when I start the car warms up then its dies off. and comes back on at times.. What would cause this? would it be the COOLANT Temperature SENSOR? or the Temperature Switch, the guague cluster it self? I also did it with my stock ka24d as well. Any clues? Thanks for the help

First, you need a mechanic's temp probe. Use that to determine the actual coolant temp. Your gauge may be working fine and it's your coolant temp that's whacky.

If your coolant temp is stable but the gauge is acting up, it could be any one of the things you said. I generally suspect faulty wiring more than anything else.

I recommend ignoring the stock temp gauge completely and invest in a proper wideband temp sensor and gauge.
