I am going to receive a s13 240sx shell w/ a silvia front conversion soon, and I have an MA70 N/A supra that needs lots of love. Luckily, it runs extremely strong. I was wondering what the Zilvia crowd would think if I swapped the 7MGE into the 240sx, and if I could get some advice on the matter.
oh, Did I mention it already has a fake smog certificate and it is EXTREMELY clean w/ a VLSD.

NA 7M - Fail
Fake Smog - Fail/shame on you.
If you have the money/time/ability to fabricate then go for it. Why not? I do personally think that an NA 7M is going to be a waste of time.
I'm not saying get an SR or anything like that, I just think there are better options in choosing an "other than Nissan" engine.

well, I really hate the supra, I just got it so cheap, and it ran great. If it really seems liek a BAD idea, then ill go single-cam KA or rb20 and sell the supra as is.

Sounds like a horrible idea. Heavy, no power, no tuning options. (Not literally, just compared to all your other choices). I'm helping another member with his NA 2JZ swap in to a 240, that's bad enough... at least his'll be legal 270hp.
Why stick to SOHC or RB20? Those are another couple horrible choices. If you're going RB, at least go RB25, and if you're sticking with something "legal", there's no advantage to the single slammer.

^ HAHA single slammer.
If anything keep the Supra as is and keep it as your daily.
Build the 240 as you would want it.

I wanted to either utilize the supra I hate, or go with something traditional. I always imagined a special edition RB20 s13, and I could just put a single cam in it to stay normal. I dont care if its legal or illegal, but I would probably only put a few motors in it:
RB20
KA24e or DE
CA18
NO SR's, I just dont want this car to have an SR20
EDIT
The supra could never be my daily because it gets about 18mpg highway. Just not willing to drive it every day for the cost it would be.

The dudes from panda garage have a 7mgte swapped Corolla that is BAR legal.didnt ride in it however the claimed like 300whp or so. I thought that was kool, but a 7mge/gte seems like the rb20 of the toyota world. You have alot of other options more cost effective fabrication wise. its up to you if you have the money then do as you please.

What's with all the ripping on the RB20? :(
Not as much power as an RB25, not as easy (/proven) to make power with as an SR, but they're cheap and not terribly hard to swap in. If you're trying to make 400WHP then it's probably not a good choice, but they're not bad motors.
Plus, every time I drive my current SR S13...I so badly miss the sound of my RB20.

It already has the S!3 conversion :P
I just like the rb20 because it is 6cyl turbo, has a sick sound and plenty of power for daily driver and drifting with a tune up + boosting.
I love the rb20 more than any other nissan engine :P

i do admit i like the sound of rb20 , but most inline 6's are going to sound like that anyhow. rbs are cheap, strong from what i hear, but i dont see the point.personal opinion id go sr.remember gas mileage also. I've ridden in two cars stock for stock, and after hearing a friend rave about how his rb20 was way better stock than an sr, after rode in it i was very dissapointed. My friend nick just finished his rb20 swap so ill ride in that, maybe drive it, and we'll see how it goes. I have not really seen any high hp rb20s.... maybe theres a reason for it lol. i rode in a CA car that felt good, but the guy seemed to have alot of issues with it. im not trying to flame, just givin you a point of view.

ok guys, this is getting a little off topic. we don't need another pointless argument over what engine is better...
back on topic.
even though you've already made up your mind on the 7mgte, im glad you chose not to install it in the car. Parts for them are hard to find, and when you do...they're expensive. (im not talking performance, im talking simple things, mafs, ecu's, etc) The shop i work(ed) at just got done building a MKIII, thing was a nightmare the entire time.
Either way, good luck in you're engine venture. :)

NA 7M - Fail
Fake Smog - Fail/shame on you.
i agree with the NA 7m fail...but fake smog fail...i have to question you on that one. without fake smog nobody in cali would have any "good" options

im dyin for fake smog right now lol... need it by 16th
if every supra owner hates the shit out of their 7MGE why swap into anything else?
7MGTE is a different story,
still a waste of time
Dare i say a 2JZGE?
well worth it and COULD be legalized but who cares?

I don't mind the 7mge, but I don't like the supra! Either way, I have already decided to sell the supra later when I need cash. for now, its 240sx restoration time. The car is an '89 100% complete and there isnt a dent on the whole car (except tiny usage ones). We just pulled the RB25 out of it last night. The agreement was that I pulled his motor, and I got the shell. Mr.booie helped out a lot! we pulled the motor in less than 3 hours. The rb25 was a pian and my friend lost interest in the 240sx, he is going to throw it in a '71 240z.
thanks guys, but I think this thread is done.
