can someone tell me or show me a link that shows how to check timing on a s13 sr20det blacktop? the only thing i know is you need a timing gun. i never did it because the tape on my cas is not ripped. i dont understand the fsm. :newbie:

Get a timing light and connect a spark plug wire from the coilpack to the spark plug. Clamp the timing gun onto the wire running to the coilpack. Cylinder numero uno, closest to the front.

timing light connect to battery..... connect the sparkplug wire connector to #1 cylinder.. start the car aim towards the crank.. there should be a pin sticking out from the front cover towards the crank pulley... notches signify degree's advanced or retarded.... if u want to adjust timing.... then u need some extra tools...

the red mark should represent 0, each additional white mark represents 5 degrees btdc, oem is 15btdc for sr i believe.

how would you fix the timing if it is off? adjust the CAS?

yeah loosen the cas bolts and turn the cas while engine running and ajdust the timing to what you want it to be and then tighten bolts.

Whatever happened to disconnecting the tps.

You're supposed to get the motor up to temp
Disconnect the TPS
check timing, set to 15* if it's an sr
reconnect tps.
