General:
1995 BMW 540i with 6speed Manual transmission.
Oxford Green over Tan Leather
Sport Edition: Larger Brakes, sports suspension, M5 sport seats.
164,000 miles
One of 1356 E34 chassis cars in North America to match the 282hp V8 with the 6-speed manual transmission.

The Good:
-I've got records from the previous couple owners back to 70k miles.
-Hella OEM Clear Corners
-New Chrome Kidneys
-17x8.5 M Contour replicas with new 235/45/17 Avon Tech M500 summer tires
-Jim C. Chip for the ECU
-Bilstien Shocks
-B&B catback Exhaust (sounds great!)
-Sony MP3 head unit with aux adaptor for iPod (matches OEM interior gauge illumination)
-10 disc Sony CD changer in trunk
-E39 M5 Shift knob
-6000k HID kit low beams
-Hella H1 yellow fog light bulbs
-New Sachs OEM clutch, throwout bearing, etc.
-Previous Owner went over the following less than 30k miles ago:
Thrust arm bushings, tie rod ends, center link, 3mm spring pads, rear dogbone, Racing King subframe inserts, rear swaybar links.

The Bad:
-PowerSteering fluid has a slow leak. It's fine for daily driving, but will leak if it sits for a long time. (I'll include 2L of BMW OEM PS fluid)
-Passenger seat is crooked, but functions perfectly. After talking with a BMW shop, it seems there are cables that might be caught under the seat. Again, I'll look into it.
-Windshield Washer resivour leaks. I've sealed all the motors, so it must be the connection to the line.

The Ugly:
-This car needs a re-spray. The clearcoat is gone on all Horizontal surfaces. The paint can be buffed up to a wonderful shine, but if you get behind on waxing it, it will show oxidation.
-Small tear on driver side seat bolster
-Wear and tear on a 13 year old car. Less than normal wear, but still an older car.
-Minor door dings that won't show up in pics.

Exterior is about a 7/10. All panels are perfectly aligned, but the paint has seen better days.

Overall I'd say the interior is 8.5/10. The floormats are getting to be a little ratty with their age, and there is the small tear in the driver's seat. Otherwise the interior is in very good condition.

Reason for Selling:
I'm finally going to start building up my 240SX for competition in stage rally, and I need to free up some money and garage space. I hate to see it go, but the 540i is the only extravagant car I have.

Price: $6,500 OBO. I'm open to negotiation, but not super motivated to sell it.

Note:
I understand how frustrating it is to buy a car online. I'll try my best to describe this car's condition as it pertains to a BMW enthusiast. If you have any specifics areas you'd like to me take pictures of (any close-ups, and specific angles) feel free to ask, and I'll have those up for you ASAP. If you are displeased with the quality of the hosted, linked images, feel free to send me a PM with your email address, and I'll shoot you some full size high res images of specific areas. All I'd ask is that you bear with me, I'm working a lot of overtime and weekends at work, and it might take a while for me to get out to the car to take the shots.

Also, if you need a knowledgeable, 3rd party opinion, take advantage of the local folks at http://www.wichitabmw.com/ and have one of them swing by and take a look.

Thank you for looking,

I bought this car because it makes a great daily driving addition to the 240SX. I found it had all the 240's great qualities, low end torque, responsive handling, RWD. But instead of rattling plastic, this car was well refined, had a useable back seat, and put forth effortless speed.

It's familiar enough to still be fun, and subdued enough to be more comfortable for the everyday commute.

Took a couple engine bay shots:

The original plasticy engine cover will be included for those of you who like to keep the mystery alive of what's under the hood...

While under there I remembered a noteworthy thing about the car: Early on when I owned the car, the intake worked itself loose on the freeway. It then went into the fan, cutting a gouge into the plastic intake pipe, and breaking small chunks off of the shroud. Instead of replacing the $90 plastic piece, I opted for $3 black duct tape.... because it is, afterall, a duct. I don't feel this affects the drivability of the car at all, but for full disclosure I'll tell you anyway. I want to be as honest as possible to any potential buyers, and take $100 off the asking price. $6400 OBO

Here are another couple pictures. The wheels are in "like new" condition with no curb rash, and the tires have full tread depth and less than 1000 miles on them. The Avon Tech M500's fit this car's personality perfectly. They have very responsive sidewalls to deal with the car's heft, and provide plenty of sound deadening at speed. I recently replaced the same tires, and they were fantastic throughout their entire life.

Also, this car has a clean title and clean Carfax. It runs excellent, and rides great. This car doesn't have a spot of rust, and the underside is incredibly clean. The previous owner went through the suspension throughly to remove the common E34 shimmy. Feel free to post or email any questions.

Thanks for looking,

-Matt

Here's the published numbers from the EPA:
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/noframes/11808.shtml

I get much higher numbers than that. I don't know if it's because of the exhaust and chip, or due to the way I drive, or that I travel at higher speeds than the EPA test (the gearing is monster tall). Could also be that they tested with an auto instead of the 6-speed.

I've witnessed 27mpg average on most long kansas highway trips before with the car's onboard computer. Around town depends greatly on how you drive it, but it has ~300 ft/lbs of torque, most of it down low, so you can bog around in whatever gear you want.

Let me know if you have any other questions,

-Matt
