Well... a sad day it is...
I drove out of my house, and i was following this 2002 Acura 3.2TL (beautiful), and this guy all of a sudden stepped on his breaks to look on his side (looking for a house i think), well.. he had ABS.. and his car stopped... i was following too close, and mine 92 240 SE coupe does not! well.. my car went.. scurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr baaaam!!! When i saw that i was gonna crash.. i turned my steering wheel to the right, trying to escape from hitting the guy.. well.. im still tying to figure out if that was a smart thing to do! I have basic insurance.. my fender got all fu**ed up, his rear bumper got a little "whole" (yess! only a little whole) and one of his tips is tilted. Like i said, i have basic insurance, the insurance policy is on my aunt's name, i do not live with my aunt, and i was not carrying my licence on me, and since its an out of state translation license so they could not look it up, i'm going to coart for driving with no license soon. Will insurance cover any of it? how fu**ed up am i? How much do you think his insurance company is going to try to get from mine to fix his car? do you think my aunt's insurance company will pay? any comments are welcome!
Pedro
ps.: what a sad day!

Here's a few suggestions:
1. Learn your car. Prepare yourself for that situation in the future. Standing on the brakes is fine & good with an ABS equipped car, but in yours & my cases, we have to KNOW when our tires won't grip anymore. Tires on the limit of friction have more ability to slow you down than a locked-up, sliding tire.
2. Steer before you brake. In the event that your tires lock, at least try to get them going in a safer direction first. Skidding tires go in the direction they were going when they lost traction.
3. Get awesome insurance. Your insurance MAY cover the cost of repair to his car, but what about yours? What would have happened had someone been injured. Great insurance costs more, but that's the price you pay for having your butt covered well.
4. ALWAYS CARRY YOUR LICENSE. ALWAYS CARRY YOUR LICENSE. ALWAYS CARRY YOUR LICENSE. I can't stress that enough. Even if it's only a block away that you're headed to.
5. Don't follow others closely. Remember that there are dumbasses out there on the road who do dumbassed things. Always be prepared for someone to be a bonehead.

i really hope they at least cover his car, because he may want a new rear bumper, and a new muffler... i would not want to pay for that! my car it's ok.. because all that got screwed up was my fender and a little of my bumper.. i was going to get a new bumper and two new fender anyways! because mine had dents on it from the last owner and my drifting "experience" lol!
the only problem is coart! i hate going to coart! they will fine me a good ammount of money! i was afraid of having to pay for his, because that would maybe make me sell my 240! lol
Later!

if you do some drifts in your car your tires im guessing doesn't have all the traction it should.. were they bald at the time?
also you should learn to pump your brakes, ABS just does it for you, if you know how to do it you could have advoided the accident.. also did you downshift/brake? or just slam on the brakes?

I have a suggestion to had, Don't tailgate man, If you woulda been at a safer distance, you coulda steered around him or pumped your brakes and have stopped..
hopefully your insurance company will cover atleats him cause if not.. your gonna get raped. he's prolly gonna be all grimey and ask for mad cash...good luck man

when you're going towards something too fast and you don't think there's enough space to stop, you'll almost always smash the brake pedal down harder, instead of pumping it... pump the friggin' brake. that's what ABS is. it's braking for 'tards.

oops! lol.. nways... i'm 17.. dont have that much experience driving, let alone "breaking"! but i learned my lesson... i still have no word from the insurance company because the people that fixed the guy's car have contacted me already with a claim # (or its his insurance company i dunno), but the girl that called me yesterday was not today, and will only be back on monday and they want me to wait until monday to talk to her... i guess she wants to know what the accident was like from my point of view! any tips on things i can say to save my butt a little more? because I'm the bad guy here.. (accident was my fault, insurance is not in my name, i was not carrying my license on me) thank you in advance

the kinda same thing happened to me yesterday only im driving along and a riced out celica runs a stop sign and cuts me off. i let off a little bit and i get a little close to him then he decides to be funny and test my brakes by slamming on his for no real reason. only i didn't use my brakes i just steered around him and hit his driverside mirror and broke it i think mine just folded in. i got out and told him to get out the F***ing car and see what happens and he said "its cool man" and i left. what a great day yesterday was you just should mess with anyone pimping a 240 and a waffle house uniform <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>
