I'm going to have a custom 3.5" exhaust built for my car and was thinking about finishing it off with the 85mm Apexi ExTi muffler. But am I wrong, or can you not weld stainless steel to titanium using general welding methods? What would be the best way for me to accomplish this?

I found this pic of the complete Apexi ExTi exhaust system, and it looks like Apexi uses a special adapter that fits on the back of the muffler?

You would have to use a clamp as you cannot weld titanium to anything but titanium.

That's what I figured.

So use the clamps, eh?

With the apex ExTi it has a bolt on flange to attatch the muffler.

I've seen titanium welded to inconel plenty of times, and I believe it will weld to stainless. Would probably need to be a 300 series alloy if it likes the high nickel in 625(inconel).

The best way to do it would be to slightly expand the stainless piping and use springs to hold it on. You'd need to weld in some tabs to do this.

If you want to do that, I actually have some titanium laying around if you want to paypal me a few bucks to cover shipping and need something to make standoffs on the Ti side. It's 6Al-4V... 0.071" thick, maybe 3x4" or so. Was going to make a throttle cable bracket out of it until I melted a few HSS drill bits on it. You need cobalt stuff to drill it, but it'll grind slowly with aluminum oxide stuff and you can actually cut it with a bimetal hacksaw.

It sparks white - fun to grind.

Oh nevermind, it's you Spanish. You're right by me, you can have the Ti for free if you want it.

BTW - need to reply to your PM on DI - haven't been on there in a while.

So the universal ExTi muffler comes with this flange? Anyone have a picture of it?

I don't think the universal ones are the same. My friend just got a universal one for his car and his muffler looked like a regular canister. He just welded his on fine to stainless steel.
