ok dropped spring shims out of my head on the intake side. found all of them and replaced them and now i put the cam along with caps in and i wanted to know if with the lobe facing up it that rocker arm should have any play or be tight?

not completely sure what ur asking but...
Its normal for there to be a gap between the rocker arm and cam when the lobe is faceing away

installed new cams cam caps bolted down no clearence betwee rocker pad and cam lobe.
now thats normal for there to be no clearance between the LOBE and the rocker arm cuz the LOBE pushed the rocker arm down, then the rocker arm pushes the Valves down

yes the shims are on the correct side. but even when the cam lobe is facing up there is no clearence between the rocker arm and cam lobe. cannot even fit the smallest feeler gauge in between.

there isnt supposed to be any clearance because the rocker clearances are self adjusting, cause sr's have hydraulic lifters...

^^ +1 There is no shimming involved with the SRs hydraulic lifter set up. The whole idea behind it is to be maintenance free as possible. Good idea, just sucked on the execution cuz the way the head is designed. Rocker arms dont like staying where theyre supposed to be when you mis-shift or over rev. Hence why you get a rocker arm stopper, stops it from flying off...
Put the cams and everything else back on per FSM. Hand crank the engine and make sure theres no binding and you should be good to go.
