U3 is shitty excuse for a file system. When you get your flash drive, format it with FAT32 and install whatever you want. It's like a hard drive with no moving parts.

the U3 is like a personal computer on a flash drive. u just plug it into any comp with a usb port and run ur own programs on the flash without disrupting the computer ur using. its like using ur own computer programs, files, music on someones elses computer.

i found some other stuff but im not sure if anyone knows how good it is like i found something called the packagefactory to convert ur own programs into the U3 format but iuno how good it is. anyone have experience with it?

+1, U3 is kind of shitty. just format. if you want portable apps.... go to www.portableapps.com (http://www.portableapps.com)
i'm using portable firefox and portable VLC right now, Sandisk Cruzer 2gb, formatted FAT32.

Just get an ordinary one and install xp on it:

Oh for brand, stick to the standard house hold brands like Sandisk, cheaper ones are usually iffy.

I like U3. Everything else tends to be slow and buggy.

Format you drive with a NTFS file system, and you could install windows and whatnot. Regular programs can be installed on a flash drive given all they need to run is whatever is in the contents of the instalation folder, ie: not registry or system files.
