i'd say from my exp, just color match
my hatch used to have a old HU, i cut off the wires, and color match'd to new HU, worked perfectly

:loco: I hate this more then anything.. Its stupid to cut the harness. It cost like $15 for a pigtail to wire your stereo up with.

Take it to Best Buy. Pay them $50 to install. Let them deal with wiring.
If you're anal, after you go home, take out the deck and solder the wires together instead of using connectors.
Otherwise, bust out the FSM-EL section and read the stereo wiring section. Follow the wire colours and match to your deck. You can use a harness, or clip off the OEM harness and solder.
I recommend using a detachable harness. Crutchfield sells one for about $10-15. It makes it easier to change decks later. Plus it's easier to solder out of the car than in the car.
There is a soldering thread in Tech. If you have any specific questions about colours, post up.
