Hi all.

I have a Greddy oil catch can, that came with two 14mm barb fittings.

Now i want to install some AN10 fittings instead of the above.

The thing is that i cant determine, what is the TREAD type and size, on the catch can side.

Its clearly a Tappered type thread, but i have no way of measuring.
It looks simmilar to a 3/8 NPT, but when i comparred them, the treads dont line up exactly.

As its a Japanese make, i would imagine is meaby metric or something.

Can anyone help me out with this ?

Thanks,
Dany.

I thought it was 3/8 NPT?
I don't have mine any more so I forget, but you could try going to a hardware store and bring the fitting with you and try screwing it into the sizing chart they have in the plumbing fittings isle.

Its always pipe thread on those things. And yes its 3/8" npt(NPT stands for National Pipe Thread). If you want the part number for it I can get it for you.

Here you go.
For a stright its = 984008ERL
45degree = 984408ERL
90 Degree = 984208ERL And those are 1/2inch Barb end.

Thats an IDEA. I just wish i had a harware store like that around...

And i am sure its not a 3/8NPT , as i have a 3/8NPT tap, and it does not line up with the tread on the fitting, nor does it screw in the hole.

allso, the Greddy barb is 14mm wich is actualy 0.55" and not 0.5"

Greddy are usualy Metric, about all their stuff.

I used this site -
http://www.plumbingsupply.com/pipethreadsizing.html (http://www.plumbingsupply.com/pipethreadsizing.html)

To confirm that the Greddy Barb fitting is defently 3/8 - but its allso defently not NPT. Compared to a 3/8 NPT tread tap - its clear that the Greddy fitting has more treads per inch - probably as sayd above - 1 extra tread per inch, compared to the NPT.

Wich brings me to the conclution, that this is probably a 3/8-BSPT.

Now, i need to find a 3/8-BSPT to AN10 adapter ....
Anyone know where ?

Thanks.

I couldn't find a bspt to AN adapter, you may have to use a bspt to npt adapter, then an AN adapter. Alternatively you could also tap it to npt.

If i Tap it to NPT, wich is the best Idea, i guess.... Being already a 3/8 BSPT - to what size should i tap it ?

Would i be able to tap it to 3/8 NPT? If not, what NPT hsould i tap it for ?

Thanks.
