I have a 98 SR Blacktop in my 92 Hatch. I just changed the spark plugs that had about 18k on them and were in my motor since I did the swap in July of 04. The plugs I had in were Denso Iridiums. I swap those for NGK V-Powers, and the V Powers have fouled out in less than 2k miles. I have not changed my hks mushroom style air filter element either since I did the swap. What could be the possible problem? Do I need to change my filter and clean the MAF? My setup is SMIC, HKS Actuator @ 9psi, 3inch DP, 3inch Exhaust. Thanks for your help.

fouled out? .. gas fouled, oil fouled? covered in soot?

NGK = Junk!! Cross-reference the plug number to a AcDelco Plug. They seem to be the best.

Yeah, it might just be that the plugs are crap. or they are too cold. Delco's are the goods though.

I have never had any issue with NGK.
Randall, a little more description of HOW the plugs are dirtied would help to discern your problem
A while back, I Google searched "reading spark plugs," I came up with these:
http://www.centuryperformance.com/spark2.asp
http://www.nightrider.com/biketech/spkplghnbook.htm
http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/techinfo/spark_plugs/faq/faqread2.asp
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spark_plug#Reading_spark_plugs
http://www.theultralightplace.com/sparkplugs.htm

... some of these lean toward domestics and motorcycles, but the conditions described are universal to 4-stroke engines... I posted so many of them so as to allow one to see the consistent presentation of what is being "read" from the plugs.
I am willing to bet that it has a lot to do with that dirty filter... I remember when you did the swap and, even though you didn't drive the car much at first with school and all, I would think that having changed/cleaned the filter would be a good look.

.....the fuck are you talking about? Why don't you suggest some Bosch +2s while you're at it?

I ran NGK's in my RB Bud, I didn't get out of the Driveway and they took a Shit!! I bought another set. 12$ a damn plug. HAHA they did better I got 20 miles off them then they took a dump. 12 plugs 144$ = Junk and ass raped. Changed to a Number 4 AcDelco spark plug and have never had a problem. No misfires nothing but performance!! and the 4$ a plug. So IMO

AcDelco FTW
NGK= Garbage.

Sounds more like you got a tunning issue posdrift240, and no need to buy new plugs if they get fouled out, big deal just clean them up and put them back in after you fix your overly rich issue. NGK makes good plugs.

Something tells me that the ACDelco plugs you used probably are not the resistor type and is why they still fired under a rich situation whereas the NGK resistor plugs did not and fouled out masking a problem.

Wasn't a tuning issue at all, the plugs were simply junk. Even when running right I would get a Misfire around 9lbs of boost. All I did was change plugs to the AcDelco's a year ago and im still running the same set of plugs. So that tells me they were completly junk.

My a/f ratio on the wideband reads 16:1 idle and 11:8 WOT so its not rich enough to be fouling the plugs that simple.

Really, thats a first I have never had an issue with NGK in my SR20DET or KA24DET.

Dunno, But ill never run another NGK in the RB. Maybe you got better luck than me.

The plugs are gas fouled. I think I'm going to clean the MAF, get a fresh air filter, and get some Denso Iridiums like I had before and go from there. I dont think its a tuning problem because.....my motor is STOCK. I greatly appreciate all of you guys help. I never thought NGK's were trash I mean they are OEM plugs for most japanese manufactures but I guess I was wrong.

I think almost everyone has better luck than you; I've *always* used them in every car I've ever owned except one, and not a single problem (including an RB20). So have a lot of other people. Which is probably why NGKs are OEM equipment in a lot of imported cars.

But you ran them in your RB and lol they sux, so what do I know.
