Engine: s13 Blacktop sr20det

Okay so today when i got home from school I noticed my coolant reservoir was nearly dry. I poured some more in and filled it up and let it sit to see where it was leaking from. Well it looked at first like it was coming from the bottom radiator hose, but it wasn't. In fact none of the hoses had a leak. Jacked the car up and it was clearly obvious it was coming from a spot on the transmission right next to where the transmission bolts to the engine. So anyone know what's going on/had this problem before? My first thought was cracked block however I would have expected to find oil leaking as well. Only other guess is a busted freeze plug. Any ideas? All help would be appreciated.

wash the bottom of your car really good

then get under it with a flashlight while someone fills the reservoir

Um, I know exactly where it's leaking...it's a problem on the internal side..somewhere in the engine coolant is leaking down into the transmission housing and leaking out there.

check your water line to the turbo. that happened to me but not as bad as yours. thats the only thing i can think of that runs behind the motor unless you still are keeping your heater core.

On what engine? Ive seen S13 SRs leak at the turbo coolant line in the back and drip on tranny bell housing. Could be doing something similar (heater core lines). What engine and which side do you think its coming from?

Well I need to take a picture of it so you can clearly see it, but it is not dripping onto the bellhousing it's literally coming out of the bellhousing. If you clean it off you can watch it come out again. It's coming from a tiny recessed area just after where the transmission and engine bolt up.

Yeah i'm aware of that unfortunately lol. Anyone ever heard of freeze plugs rusting out or busting for no reason? That's about all I've got on this besides cracked block.

no

its from your coolant line probabaly dripping down
coolant if it was coming thru the trans would come w/ mor eoil then coolant.
its just dripping down your engine over the the trans.

i just dropped my transmission this weekend again.
theres no way you could be having coolant come from it, unless you filled it with coolant.

either it's a coolant line, or you cracked the block/have a corroded core plug.

but most likely is it's the coolant line, and it's running down in the seam between the block and the bellhousing.

when i had my rb... i had the same issue and it ended up being a coolant hose under the intake mani, it poured from there and would just leak down to where the tranny is making it seem like it was leaking from it. Then again its an sr not an rb.

Check your heater hose.

chances are it's coming from that.

Dripping on to your tranny, and down it.

heater hoses
turbo coolant line
freeze plug

Those are your 3 options, I SERIOUSLY doubt the block is cracked. You need to get a cooling system pressure tester and find the leak. Watching it drip will get you nowhere, with a pressure tester it will squirt, that is much easier to find.

I made a girl squirt once.

Didn't need a coolant pressure tester either.

I knew it was gunna happen! LOL! That is a TOTALLY different cooling system though man! Actually it is more of a lubrication system! :boink:
