I’ve got a good question everyone. It looks like my dad is going to have to sell all of his car in this divorce with my mom and I’m looking to sell mine too. We are moving down from 4 cars to two. In the past I’ve had a 99 Civic EX and a Saturn SC-2 … All double digit hp of it . Although, with us getting rid of all of our cars we’re looking to get a Toyota Tundra for him, and we are asking what to get for me… so far he wants me to get a new car but I’m wanting to get a S14 Although I doubt it will happen… here are the choices I’ve been given.

Acura: RSX Type – S
Toyota: MR2 Spyder

And possibly a WRX…

I’m trying to talk my dad into getting a used 240sx, or a twin turbo 300zx… But if you had to choose between the top two cars. Which one would you get?

well if you can't get an s14 which of course we all hope you do, I would go for the WRX... I know its not the two choices but with teh price of the RSX-S you could just about get a WRX. And dammit if one person says its ugly that's not a reason to not get it because those things are fast in corners and on a drag strip....(bad experiences with them)

Yeah, if the Subaru is an option I'd take that for sure. But if not, I'd take the type-S because I think it looks better than the MR-S and it has 22 more horsepower. That's too bad that you probably won't be able to get an S14.

22hp isn't that much when you consider that the MR2 weighs considerably less than an RSX-S. The MR-S has the HUGE advantage over the RSX in that it's MR rather than FF (who wants to drive FF anyway?).
I'd go for the MR-S. It would be more fun to drive (provided you know how to 'properly' drive an MR car).

Personally i'd go for the MR-S due to the layout, Mid engined rear drive is a very nice combo. If you decide against that though, the subaru WRX would be my second choice. Nice amount of power and an AWD setup. I don't care much for FWD, so the RSX wouldn't be an option for me.

i'd choose the WRX. already turbocharged. all wheel drive for winter time. voided warranty if you install an aftermarket exhaust system i mean.
i'd buy a new lancer instead, just because of that last part.

What aftermarket support does the MR-2 have exactly? I know that the RSX has it out the ass, but I dont know much for the Spyder.

If I were you I'd get the WRX or the MR-S. I've driven the Rsx Type-S and let me tell you, it isn't any fun to drive plus it's to damn big for a sport compact. I tried out the WRX Wagon and that thing was so much fun to drive, it handles fairly well stock plus have a fair amount of power. Mind you that's power that you can use almost all the time because of the AWD. Even on a gravel road with snow on it the tires didn't even spin for a second. I got it up to 120 km/h then slammed on the brakes and the car barely slid at all. So that's my opinion. I'd love to at least try the MR-S, it may not have to much power but it probably handles like a dream.

Personally I don't like big cars and I found the RSX to be far to big, even compared to the WRX (the wagon mind you).

Oh yeah try to get a wagon if you can and then just mod it. Think about it, with the right modifications even if you're on a moderate to tight budjet, I'm sure you could get anywhere from 250-300 hp and that's out of a wagon. Now that's a sleeper.

The MR-S does have a somewhat decent aftermarket, I know tere are a few turbo MR-S's out there.

I think if I new your age or if you are in High School or college and what year you are in. Then that could make it easier for me to answer.

Also is there a price range in your choice or you just want a certain car. And do you want a car to take you from point A or point B, or do you want someting to drive like you stole it. Also I am assuming you are going to be modding it, since you asked about about aftermarket support.

Here is my take:

1. MR-S - Small, light, good handling, convertible; not as much aftermarket support, but try putting a JDM 3S-GTE in thier (245 Hp Turbo 2L), don't know if it has been done yet
2. RSX - Lots of aftermarket, or soon to be (its a honda/acura), more room than MR-S
3. WRX - Highest price, best performance, TURBO, AWD, Looks like a neon
4. Neon SRT-4 - Turbo, torque, fmic, ugly, dodge, 2.4L (KA ), supposedly good suspension
5. Sentra Spec-V - Nissan, LSD, 6-Speed, torque, FF, prolly more but i need to get off the comp.

I am surprised that no one has suggested it, but why not a 350Z? I have ridden in one before and only one word could describe it: incredible. The base model runs a couple grand more than the WRX or MR2, but 280HP stock, come on. As for exactly what car to buy, it is up to you, but do not base too much on what people on a board say, go out and test drive the cars yourself, buy what car is the best fit of comfort/power for you.

Driven a WRX, a damn fun car, plus very roomy in it's sport wagon layout (for better or worse). It does lack the rwd factor. . . Nothing can beat it once you learn it. As samiam said, everybody's different. Go test drive them.

damn, I wish I had a choice like that. . . If my dad offered to buy me a car in those price ranges, I'd be able to cover the rest and get myself a 350z without trouble. My parents pay for next to nothing, and I love them for it. Financial independence kicks ass :-)

Oh, make sure to track insurance rates and whatnot, unless your dad covers that too.

FF is fun, I don't car what anybody says. You can do the dumbest shit and still pull out of it.

New mr2 look kinda ghey.

if you can get a 240 or 300zx get a rsx
if you can't get that get a mr2

I would take the MR-S.... i mean if your worried about having high horsepower they make a turbo kits for the 1ZZ-GE motor... plus its MR layout is another plus!

BUt it all comes down to personal preference.... however for me its MR-S hands down.... the RSX imo is nothing but a fancy civic..

As for what someone said about putting a 3S-GTE in MR-S...
great motor it just has a problem with detonation in the USDM version and the JDM is no better because of the high lever of octane fuel it requires to run properly when tuned... iirc most of the top MR2's run the 5F-GE 2.2L motor found in the N/A Gen 2 MR2's with a custom turbo set-up... but then again thats the hardcore guys who run that most opt for the JDM 3S-GTE..... i am a big fan of all 3S-GTE facets myself. id say mr-s, only because i used to drive a mk1 mr2, and being mr that was a fun car, and i think it only had 112hp???stock, could be wrong, but it was still pretty quick, or atleast i thought so, another thing i didnt see mentioned, where you live could play a factor, if you dont get snow, then it doesnt matter...but my old mk1 was fun as hell in the winter...had enough traction to make it around, and still could toss it about and keep control, as for 240 in the winter...hell no, i wrecked my 95 that way, this one is sitting in the garage, i did take it out the other day to fuck around at low speeds tho...anyways this was kinda off topic...basicly if dady is buying it for you, then get what you want...who cares what other people think.
