i have a s14 with r32 vlsd along with the axles. recently i've noticed that when i make hard and fast turns to the left, the right rear end seems to be lagging. it will rotate but feels like its getting stuck. the left is fine. what does this mean? if it is broken, is it better to replace or rebuild? i believe its a 6 point. thanks.

is it the same gear ratio?

In a VLSD, the viscous fluid is separate from the diff oil, and the VLSD unit itself is sealed and unserviceable...changing the gear oil in the diff wouldn't have any effect. Get yourself a real LSD.

The viscous coupling is getting tired, happens to all vlsd's. Either get it re-built (not really the best option) or get a real LSD. If you aren't really interested in drifting you could go with a s-15 helical LSD. That would be pretty ideal for track/autocross/daily use as it is quiet and operated very smoothly. A quailfe LSD ia a more expensive/hardcore diff for those same applications. If you wanna go drifting then you really can't do better than like a KAAZ 2-way, or a 1.5 way id you want the car to be a little better set-up for track/autocross while still being set for drifting somewhat (basically a compromise between drifting and track). It really all depends what you wanna do with the car. Don't worry about putting the open diff back in as even a very tired vlsd does help. The worst thing that can happen is the diff loses it's limited slip function and basically becomes an open diff.

I don't think you can weld a viscous lsd

you cant weld vlsds... your open diff on the otherhand is a different story

get a 2way to drop into your open diff carrier, then sell your vlsd.
(no down time, and people who cant get 2ways always want viscous)

even for a daily, a 2way kaaz/tomei isnt bad and affordable.

give your car some balls and get a 2way

You know some people don't drift, Right?

Most people here on zilvia don't seem to understand that concept.

thanks for the replies. not sure if i want a 2way. a buddy of mine had it on his s13 and i think its pretty rough driving. maybe i will do the s15 helical.

i also have a miata, which i barely started tougeing with. not enough power and so i would like to use my s14 and maybe sell the miata. when i took it for the drive, i started noticing that my right side rear end is slipping, gripping, slipping, gripping, and so forth. it sucked big time. and also, super loud noise when i accelerate. sounds like the diff. its probly time for it to go.
