View Full Version : How do you guys feel about...?

What do you guys think about the Scion tC? Reason I ask is that though I really love my s14, you all know as well as I do that 240's don't make the most practical DD/Only car for a young guy (I'm 20). I have less and less time to work on my 240, and parts are becoming more and more expensive the more I mod it... but isn't that usually how it works? lol. I really like the Scion tC's style, pep, and best of all, it has warranty. I'm thinking of selling my s14 once I swap out the motor and suspension, and using that money as a down payment on a tC. What do you guys think? I won't be leaving the 240 game for good though, just taking a break til I can get the space and time to have a project car.

man...if you wernt a premie id neg rep you for that one...

tCs suck...the interior is super cheap feeling, that gay pleather moon roof cover is tacky & they're just girl cars...sit outside a gay club one nite and look at guys as they drive away in their scions, if you envy them i suggest a change in life style..if you fall asleep laughing then you know its not meant to be. and last time i checked 240s get pretty good gas mileage.

good luck

Yeah, with a bad headgasket I'm getting 26mpg pure city. Gas isn't the issue. 240's cost a SHIT TON to maintain, and having so much potential, they beg you to drop money into them. So in essence, I want to get rid of it to stop the urge to drop money into it.

yeah, most people who drive scion tc's think they're the stupid shit of the town. Really, take a second look at them.
So get a Scion xb those are at least cooler and people who drive them are usually chill. Plus you can haul all you're homies around.

Why the need to go buy a brand new car? I really dont understand spending all that money just on a dd when you say it cost to much to maintain the 240.

Tc's are a waste. Buy a late 90's/early 00's corolla or civic for half the price.

Or even better, sell the 240sx and buy a used 350z for 15k.

I don't do Mazda. New civic = expensive. I'm 20. I don't make shit tons of money lol. I thought about the Fit, but then again, its a faggoty paddle shifter. WRX's are also expensive to maintain. Corolla isn't out of the question, but definitely not near the top of the list. Civic? Quite a possibility. Oh, and I didn't say it had to be brand new.

Reason I want a newer car is 1) warranty for a few years. 2) its not from the fucking 90's.

Self-control my friend.

When I first bought my 1991, only things I had to replace was the water pump, coolant temp sensor, and the clutch fan when the studs decided to break away, once I fixed them up, the engine was solid. Drove it for 11 months no problems till I crashed it :(

My KA24E in my 1990 had about 132,000 miles before I yanked it out and dropped the SR in, only problem with it was lifter tap, but it ran like a champ.

I just think getting a newer car is the easy way out. I couldn't even imagine going into my garage and hopping into a Scion tC and driving around. I think my soul would die a little inside with every mile I put on it.

For some reason I'm not feeling the tC. Ideally, I should not be basing my opinion of the car on how it look but also how it perform and durability as well. if you want a good price and good warranty, there are two things that come to mind first,

1. hyundai
2.saturn

there are a plethora of new hyundai's out there, all of which come with an awesome warranty

then there is the saturn astra. (among others, look into it)

you can learn how gay the scion tc is
you can understand that money can be dumped into that too

oh and this site too

this site will tell you how sick your car is
how good of gas mileage it gets
and how nice you can make it

if you already own a dope ass car and you would rather pay more money a month for a second car that gets a little better mileage then you must have a vagina cause your brain isnt thinking right

i understand you. it's not like we can't fix it, dont have the money, or don't know how to. it's that we are too busy or too lazy to keep fixing shit on a car that keeps having shit break. its nice having a new car that doesn't break and shit. less headache involved, reliable, and something you can drive without modding or worrying if its going to break down, thieves, cops, etc. also nice to have it under warranty to have parts replaced for free and whatnot. it's the economical choice for a college student.

if i could to do it over again, i would have spent 10k+ on a downpayment for a nice newer car rather than modding my s13 over the years. then i would just buy a failed swap car and fix it/add mods as necessary. now, i retired my s13 to a track only car and am looking to buying a newer car too.

but i guess everyone has their own opinions on cars. i don't like the scion tc either, but i understand the feeling that you want to get something that is reliable and possibly good on gas. i think there are other options out there if you are in the market.

At this point I'm just gonna say screw it and fix what's wrong with my car's body, swap in another motor and cluster, and call it a day til this KA decides to start pissing me off again. Meanwhile I'm going to save up for a nice car when I get more stable.

I was in your shoes a few years ago, but I decided that I CAN'T sell my 240. Senitmental value maybe?

So, first I bought an 01 Frontier with a waranty b/c I thought I needed a waranty much like you do. Overpaid a little but the truck ran great and got 24mpg. After a year I was kinda getting bored of it and getting really tired of the $300 payment and $150 in insurance a month. So I took a loss and sold it. Paid cash for $4k Subaru Impreza 2.5rs which is an absolute steal and it was the best decision ever!

No debt, my insurance on both cars is $48 a month. B/c of this I have almost all my credit cards paid off and recently purchased a house. I still drive the 240 on the weekends when it's running

If you want cheap transportation thats reliable, get something you will have no desire to mod.. like a Honda fit. Great gas mileage, not worth modding. Make sure you get dark window tint though, that way other people on the road cant see your face. :D

have to agree with the unfavorable consensus here about the tc. Fit, civic, and mazda3 are really some of the best choices for that 15-20k price-range. I almost got a fit myself too, but picked up an Si instead. the new lancer and rabbit are pretty fun to drive, but I'd have reservations about their dealer service, and mpg.

If i were you, i'd just save up till 22-25k. then you can afford the really fun stuff like the Si, a GTi/Audi A3 if you can work on cars or know a good mechanic w/ vw's. The 08 wrx is also still a very solid car, albeit you'll be paying a lot in insurance. if you can look past your dislike for mazda, the miata and the mazdaspeed 3 are good deals.

also, if you have good credit and are willing to lease, some of the 3-series and audi a4 deals arn't too bad out there. you could have something around 3-400/month.

I didn't read the whole thread

But at this point I'd much rather drive a new Scion with working A/C

Than a modded 240sx

This is generally speaking in regards to DAILY driving

But if I were you, I wouldn't buy a car you need to make payments on

Why put yourself in debt for a CAR? Use that money for more vital or important things

Buy a used car

If its just a daily, all it needs to do is get you from point A to point B, reliably

Who cares what it looks like, unless you are self conscious like that

But people who care about what kinda car you drive or how much you make are typically people who shouldn't matter to you

i only pay $240 a month and $100 insurance it was really nice not having a car payment though :hs: but i can tell you i miss my 240 to death it belongs to "berz" here on zilvia now

if i could do it all over again i just would have kept the 240 and bought a 97-99 civic just to get to work and back

If you are looking for good resale value and reliability, Tc is a good choice. you don't have to worry about it will get stolen like civic si, you don't have to worry about electrical problems like mazda or vw.

the performance of tC just so so, but enough to use as a daily. the fuel efficiency could be better, but that gave the car reasonable acceleration.

if you are looking for space and fuel economy, i would recommend the new civic. it give almost same fuel efficiency as Fit and have more rooms and power.

i am guessing you are at your early 20 and i would not spend more than 20k to buy a car. so you could have options latter such as pursuit higher education, start up a business...etc. the less you borrow the better shape you are.

Impreza ?

You never stated how much you are willing to drop on a used car, so the suggestion people make will be endless (even if its mostly Honda Fit).

Resale valule? S14's are the way to go. The market is stupid crazy, and its only gonna get even more insane. I bought my car for $2200, and have people on my nuts all the time offering almost twice as much for it. Craziness.

If I could get a car, it would be $13k or less.

But as it stands, I'm just gonna keep the car, swap the motor, and keep the old one and build it for turbo.... meanwhile save up a bunch of money to get something I actually want, and turn my s14 into a project car.

if i could to do it over again, i would have spent 10k+ on a downpayment for a nice newer car rather than modding my s13 over the years. then i would just buy a failed swap car and fix it/add mods as necessary. now, i retired my s13 to a track only car and am looking to buying a newer car too.

then why not take out a loan and then get a dope ass s14 with an alarm and everything in tip top shape and keep it nice, dont use it as a project car

if you are going to get a scion tc then you might as well castrate yourself
dont castrate yourself man, there are more alternatives
