Anyone ever have any problems with their temperature gauge not registering on the gauge cluster on their dashboard?? A buddy of mine 95 S14 temperature gauge died on him & is no longer working.

I did some troubleshooting using the 95 FSM but wasn't able to get it to work following the testing procedures listed. Even tried running a wire direct from the engine temperature sensor on the engine directly to the harness on the gauge cluster with no such luck.

What's got me confused is the FSM shows that the temperature gauge has three leads coming in. One from a 7.5 amp fuse coming off the ignition switch, (no blown fuses), a second from a ground line running thru the electronic speedometer but getting signal from the ECU...???...and the third, the actual signal wire coming directly from the engine temperature sensor mounted directly on the motor.

Anybody ever had this type of problem before & what was the fix OTHER than wiring in another independant temperature sensor. My buddy would like to get his stock one working....

Let me know....Thanks!!

My temp sensor was not working either. The reason it did not work was because the contact point on the sensor was really dirty. So I cleaned it and took some sand paper to it and pluged it back in. Works perfect now. Hope this helps.

There are two temp sensors... one for the gauge and one for the ECU. The ECU one is the one with 3 wires going to it, the gauge only has one blade connector, and is located right next to the ECU temp sensor on the engine block. You're troubleshooting the wrong sensor.

And yes, both sensors can corrode/get dirty, and can be cleaned up with some sand paper (I put the sensor in a vice with a towel and use a 'fine' wire wheel).
