Hi, I'm trying to start with installing the rear suspension first. I have a few concerns right now:
1) for the height of the rear coilover, it doesn't seem would fit with my stock rims. It seems is too short. (I haven't touch the original setting)
2) The rear room seems surprisingly lack of clearance; there is a nut seems like about 2~3cm from touching the bottom of the shock. Is it normal?
3) the bottom screw seems is too short because the stock shock is thiner at the screw area.
4) I also notice the bottom of the shock is adjustable too, should I adjust the height there?
This is a s14. I tried to search everything but is there any where has height suggestion. What is the proper height? Is there is definite data recorded?
hope to get some help quick, thanks!

Out of the box the stance coilovers are way too low. A friend and I installed the rear coilovers on the back without adjusting them and it must've been at least a 3 inch drop... Looked like one of those low rider cars with air shocks and the wheels tucked in.
This was on an S14 btw.

Install the the top part first then adjust the lower till it kinda reaches then push the suspension up and blot it up get a tape measure to ensure proper height

ya stance coils come with the rear ones set as low as possible you have to adjust it once you put them on car, just count the threads to get it even on both sides. its a pain in the ass to get the right height so make sure youre on even level ground. should be real easy to get them on.

thanks, this is a s14. I already got the top and bottom fitted in. But the problem is I don't know if I did it right, because, as I said, it looks too low to even put the wheel back on. Also, the original bottom screw seems too short, I'm so afraid I did it wrong.

did you leave the factory setting on the coilover? if you did, you have to adjust it btw what kind of stance coilovers? basics? GR+? GR+ pro's?

nismo racer (http://www.zilvia.net/f/member.php?u=68623): do I set the height by turning the bottom black part of the shock?

ya, count the threads first though so you know how many you turns you gave the bottom part so its even on both sides. you could also use the tool to lower it or raise it but since your ball joints arent broken in itll be hard to turn. what i did was raise it to what liked and count how many threads there was, then i did the same thing to the other side and made sure there was the same amount give or take one.

thank you Nismo Racer, did you use the same bottom screw you removed? Because I'm not sure which side is correct to put the coilover so the screw will be tightened.

what do you mean bottom screw?

Yeah, most coilovers come from the factory at "max low" setting, because that takes up less room in the box. You have to adjust them to the height you want.
I think he means the bolt that holds the bottom of the coilover to the knuckle. The wide red part goes towards the OUTSIDE of the car, making the coilover sit more "straight up" (rather than "diagonally").

i kinda figured he meant that, i was thrown off cuz he said screw and not bolt.

lol, yes bolt, my appoligy, so I use the same bolt w/washer, correct?
which wide red part? I can't anything red except the sticker.

ya the same bolt and washer, at the bottom there is like a sort of bushing thing, im pretty sure its black not red(well mine are black), one side is wider than the other, the longer side goes to the outside and the shorter goes towards the nut and washer.

yes, indeed, mine is black too, I couldn't find any red part. thanks.
but for the clearance problem, do you have the same 2~3cm gap?

which bolt at the bottom of the coilover? either way, if you put it in like i said i dont think youll have a problem, once you let the suspension compress when you get the car on the floor have a look and see if it rubs on to it if it does then theres a problem if it doesnt then your good.

thanks nismo racer, can i know your height in numbers or by thread you counted? I don't know how far I should turn the bottom black part because I don't know how far the spring will compress.
In this case, is that mean I have to take out my suspension everything if I want to ajust height?

actually i just installed my stance GR+ 2wk ago. yes, wider part of the lower mount face your wheel. Use the same bolt/ and washer. About the 2~3cm clearance from a bolt of one of the rear arms, I have that also, but I don't think it's matter as long as you have some clearance. Also, you'll need alignment so hopefully there'll be more space in between.

i counted 43 and thats with 15x8 0 offset rims,i dont think it compress that much as for the adjusting you dont have to take off the bottom to adjust the height, but its easier since the pillow ball joints arent broken in, once they are broken in you can use the tool to turn the top part to get the desired height.

no problem dude! i was soo confused the first time i had to instal my first set of coilovers, haha i had to do it by trial and error. also make sure you upgrade your tie rods soon too, dont want to go bending or snapping one like i did, its no fun. lmk if you need more help.

thank you so much Nismo Racer, you sure did helped a lot!
now, I'm still worry about the length of the bottom bolt. I compared how much it gets in with the stock and stance. Because stance has a side that extends out, so the bolt can't get as much in as compare to stock one.
and where is the tie rods located at? i don't want to break mine too :)

dont worry about the bolt, you should be fine just tighten it good and dont forget an alignment or else youll eat up your tires. the tie rods are on the steering rack. just google tie rods, youll find what they are. they arent expensive, i have the tein tie rods they are best bang for your buck and work very well.
