you guys have been extremely helpful in the past, even though this is a dumb question, i hope you guys will come through...
im in the middle of doing a 60k service on my '97 240sx, as a matter of fact, ive swapped out my fuel filter, tranny fluid, dropped in a k&n filter, plugs, wires, dist, cat, and i just drained my oil...
now my question, ive added 3 quarts of oil, and the dipstick registers all the way to the full line... for some reason, this doesnt sound right... if any of you guys know off the top of your head, how many quarts of oil does the ka24 in my 97 take???
im going to go swap out my light bulbs, since one of them blew a week ago, and ill come back and check... thanks for all the help...
one more question, for some reason, i cannot seem to reach the bottom bolt in the thermostat housing... any tips???

It should be a little less than 4 quarts, like 3.8 or something like that. As for the thermostat, can't help you there.

thanks guy, but that sounds like a ballpark figure... anyone else know an exact number of quarts (or a definite approximate)???

are you draining your oil while your car is in a flat position? if it's tilted so that some of the oil is away from the drain hole in the oil pan, you'll have the old oil still in there and that's how you're getting full with 3 quarts.
specs say that the ka24e gets 3.375 without filter and 3.75 with filter. ka24de gets 3.75 quarts without filter and 4 with a filter.
if you can't reach your thermostat bolt, then you'll need deep sockets or a socket extention...i haven't messed with my thermostat, but i would think those tools would be useful.

I've put in 5 quarts before! My oil was running very very low and decided to do an oil change. I put in the 4 qrts and ran the engine idle for awhile. I did change the oil filter as well. I checked the dipstick and it was still kinda low. I put in the 5th quart and checked the dipstick. The level was not FULL but good enough. I was kind of worried because I put in 5 qrts but everything turned out well.

I changed the thermostat on my 93 S13 about 18 months ago, and had to get underneath the car to get the bottom bolt. Major PITA, especially since the thermostat sometimes sticks open, so I get no heat when it acts up on cold days. Gotta replace it again soon... <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>
