View Full Version : Does anyone else on here listen to 80's music?

Ok, I searched and all I saw was a thread about the 80's in general and it was 2 pages long.

So here is the deal. I grew up in the 80's and I don't think everything was cool from than, but I do like alot of the music.
or should I say alot of the music I listen to is from the 80's.

so I am going to list a few of the first ones that come to mind.

the police
new order
motley crue
guns n roses
loudness
x (japan)
the cure
depeche mode
kiss and rush but they were before the 80's and they just played through the 80's.
run dmc

and many others but I do not want to name all the ones I listen to.
I don't know why I like the music so much, but some of my friends don't like the music I listen to, and say nobody listens to that.

but all i say is fuck the radio.

so if you want to add to the list, maybe even be specific like te song or two that would be helpful.
thanks.

80s synthesizers are amazing, I listen to a lot of electronic music that incorporates 80s sounds, but of course I also love real 80s stuff.

Epic.

80's fucking music pwns. That's what you can call music, not all the garbage coming out today. There are good songs that come out nowdays, but they lose their appeal so quickly. Not like old school music.

but music today is such crap. radio sucks. and whenever I do listen to it, I hear shit from the 80's mixed into someone elses shit. but yeah, love the stuff.

early Metalica was cool, and Van Halen was cool too.

While I do enjoy the 80's hairband/metal. I don't think it's falls into the category of 80's music. They're more into rebelling against the 80's movement rather than enjoying/accepting it.

the coolest thing about music in the 80's was that everyone loved ALL the music. nowadays, people tend to get so into only their fav genre/type.

oh, and if you had a radio in the 80's you loved his music:

most people are "into" 80's music. I'm not trying to start a weiner contest with everyone, I'm just saying. I love listening to it all the time and I prefer listening to it over anything else. It's pretty much all I ever listen to. I blast it in my car when I'm drifting. I'm just tired of people being all yeah I'm totally into 80's and after 3 songs there over it and that's it so if you guys are down then that's cool.

All I can say is Depeche Mode and The Cure are like timeless acts. Psychedelic Furs was hot as well.
Scritti Politti pretty much wrote the book on modern day white boy pop R&B. They were doing it better than Justin Timberlake wishes he could.

Don't forgot about the all acts Vince Clark was part of after leaving Depeche Mode aka Alison Moyette, Erasure and I think one other band.

Echo and the Bunnymen was another great band and of course Love and Rockets and Peter Murphy.
Siouxsie and the Banshees
Smashing Pumpkins
Duran Duran
Seal
Split Enz
Janes Addiction
The Cult
Tackhead
Ministry
Front 242
Skinny Puppy
KMFDM
Black Flag
Bad Religion ya there still around but there from the 80's as was No Doubt and even Green Day , they were all releasing records in the 80's

Ok ya I am getting into the Industrial and punk side but fuck Industrial and punk were great back in the day.

Shit if I was to list how much great music was made during the 80's. Fact is the outside of House,Acid House ,Acid Jazz, trip hop, Jungle/Drum N Bass and what not the 90's was a musical blowout. It sucked. Unless you like recycled rock labeled grunge of which Nirvana was the only original. Don't get me wrong Eddie Vedder is a talented singer but otherwise bleh!!

There are some interesting bands out in the rock scene now Radiohead is amazing but most of the good stuff never makes it to radio anymore.

i have had 80's hair metal on in the shop for the last few weeks. i hated it when i was a kid, but now it seems like complex music compared to what i hear other wise. if its not 80's hair metal im blastin 80's punkrock.

I have XM and all I ever listen to is the 80's channel. For some reason, 80's music just seems...happier than any other genre. Maybe it just makes me happier. Everything was just so over-the-top in that era of music and that made it awesome. All our friends make fun of my girlfriend and I for listening to nothing but 80's music, but I'd rather listen to that then Usher or gangster rap.

I have to say, one of my favorite bands ever is Talking Heads, and they personified the 80's to me.

80s music is overall better, compared to modern day music. I think its because there is a huge variety, and it all doesnt sound the same. (like modern music does) I was a kid in the 80's but when i hear the tunes I know the words (usually) It does sound 'happier' and reminds me of much much easier times. my fav out of the 80s is: Billy Idol FTW!

It's early morning
The sun comes out
Last night was shaking
And pretty loud
My cat is purring
And scratches my skin
So what is wrong
With another sin
The bitch is hungry
She needs to tell
So give her inches
And feed her well
More days to come
New places to go
I've got to leave
It's time for a show

Here I am, rock you like a hurricane
Here I am, rock you like a hurricane

My body is burning
It starts to shout
Desire is coming
It breaks out loud
Lust is in cages
Till storm breaks loose
Just have to make it
With someone I choose
The night is calling
I have to go
The wolf is hungry
He runs to show
He's licking his lips
He's ready to win
On the hunt tonight
For love at first sting

Here I am, rock you like a hurricane
Here I am, rock you like a hurricane
Here I am, rock you like a hurricane
Here I am, rock you like a hurricane

Yeah............ maybe. Or maybe not... :)

Hair metal is one thing(but don't group all 80's metal as hair metal), but LOVING mad crazy guitar shit. The 80's was full of shred. Randy Rhoads, Eddie Van Halen, Steve Vai, Satriani, Yngwie Malmsteen, Michael Angelo Batio, Paul Gilbert, Dimebag... just listing some that people may know of.

And damn Smashing Pumpkins ftgdw. No one writes like Billy. If you know, you know -- and if you don't, you should be glad.
