View Full Version : S13 steering clunk when turning sharp, low speed

I've searched and couldn't come up with a consensus on what is causing this apparently common problem.

My s13 steering makes a hard and loud clunk coming from the RH front corner when I'm pulling into my parking space at home (LH full lock turn). Sounds almost like the spring binding then suddenly springing around. I never hear it on the road or when I'm rolling around at speed.

I'm on stock 170k, worn out, old, crappy suspension. Just replaced the TC rod bushings with ES poly ones and put in ES rear subframe bushing inserts.

Any ideas or experience with this problem?

Thanks,
Fred

hmm i have the same thing, but i know mine is my TC bushing binding. does it do it or creek when you push down on either of the front corners? if it does, have someone push down while you feel for the vibrations.

Got it figured out last night. Looks like the RH spring is binding at the top when the wheel is turned at low speeds. It binds up then springs around and makes a "thonnnnggg" sound. Probably the top mount worn out or something.

I guess I'll just live with it until I get some coilovers, no biggie for now.
