STORY:
I've had this car for just over a year thinking it had no accidents. About three month ago it dawned on me that my SRS light NEVER turned on for a self check (going from S13 without airbags to an S14 with airbags you don't really think about it). Hmm, thinking that possibly the light could have burned out, or, worse yet, be stuck on and unplugged. To my boredem on a slow work day, I removed the gauge cluster to find the SRS socket unplugged and on.
Damn. I tried to access the SRS code using the door button per FSM instructions but since the light is a steady on, I can't access codes that way, I need CONSULT. (If the light was a consistant on/off flash, you can use the door jam button to pull flash codes.)
Skip ahead to today, another SLOW day in the shop (8.6 hours pay for 11 hours at that place, woohoo!), I was getting my new drive belts out of the trunk and I noticed a black spray of the drivers side quarter panel (where the jack and spare tools are suppose to be). I never really noticed, and when I did I figured it was a sound-deadening spray or extra hard layer for in case the jack comes loose it won't automatically dent the panel. I pull back the carpeting on the side and the floor of the truck to find small ripples in the quarter panel and a dent on the floor where it goes down into the jack compartment (where the body glue is on that corner). Odd, I NEVER noticed and I had the car for a year, granted, I never use my trunk.
I did know the car has been repainted being that there is a spot of red on the left rear window moulding from a drip. Its red, after 12 years they turn pink, I didn't think anything.
QUESTIONS:
-I have an airbag light on. Could an impact on the left rear quarter panel trip the computer without deploying the airbags setting the light?
-Car has a clean title, I THINK I got a carfax on it, showing no accidents, anyone with an account willing to run it for me? (You can post it up here, no need to PM)
VIN #: JN1AS44D3TW050334
-An impact like that (to leave evidence in my trunk) is there anything I've should look for (any ideas, body guys)? It was on a lift many times and I never noticed anything odd.

Thanks guys.

*NOTE: I found pictures of my old Coupe, it makes me sad. I miss her but love my 14. *sigh*

A rear impact would not trip the SRS light.

You do not need a CONSULT to pull the codes, the door switch method works whether it's on or flashing, just try it again. If it does not go into diagnostics the control unit is bad.

I tried and tried but no diagnostics mode. The control unit must be bad then. I'll swap with my buddies S14 to see if the light goes out. Thanks.
