I think I saw a couple way back when, but I didn't think I'd ever need it. My rear bumper is getting pretty beat up from the heat/soot generated from the exhaust. I may be backfiring a bit too during autox events.

I know I should just tune the car to run less rich, but I figured that I want to install one sooner or later anyway since the high end is pretty much always going to be tuned toward the rich side.

In any case, anyone done this and have some pics & tips?

I'm going to be doing this on both a stock rear s13 coupe bumper & rear aftermarket bumper.

I have a general idea (basically just some aluminum sheeting w/ rivets), but having a hard time figuring out how to shape the aluminum smoothly for minimal ghettoness.

just get an ASpec extended muffler. Get at Logan, he'll hook you up, because those are specifically for aftermarket bumpers.

PS. they do sell covers, and not to rag on making it yourself, it just might you trouble to just get a sick looking extended tip.

Thanks for the input.

I've tried looking for covers, but have only found ones for STI's & EVO's. If you know a site which sells a universal kit, that'd be awesome!

I'd totally get an Aspec muffler - they make great stuff. However, I love my RSR ex-mag & don't wanna give it up unless I really have to.

Attain has one for the S14, its a nice chunk of change for a piece of Kevlar though. Thieves might make off with it the day you get it on your car. Check with RHDJapan, I saw it on their website not too long ago.

Sweet, that doesn't loook bad @ all. That should work great for my stock bumper.

My fiberglass ones are shaped a lil different so have some contours & stuff to work around.

THANKS!

haha thanks man..
it seriously took like 30 mins..cut it to size...and its kinda a pain to "mold" the alluminum..but i thought it look okay.
im glad it helped!

The 'thin aluminum' is called aluminum flashing. It's for finishing in construction, and comes in about .020" thickness sheets, 2ft wide at most hardware stores. It'll work for a cover, and a bit of a heat shield, but it's not very thick, and can 'tear' around the rivet holes.

I use it for ducting on the front (bumper->ic->radiator, etc), but will probably make a similar thing for the rear when I get my new bumper.

You can also get some of that wire protector on summit racing or jegs for like 10 duckets.

if you have time....it might be nice to have a friend or shop do carbon on the rear. when you get a chance, try doing a simple mold with plaster.. and get the shape. Cheap and simple way to avoid trying to shape it right then

Bad news for those that have S14, it doesn't seems like Attain make a bumper guard for you guys.

These things cost an assload too.

The Kognition guys should make some of these. I shall start researching on how to make small carbon fiber parts, flame away.

you could just get a section of pipe welded into extend your exhaust, and have the hangers tweaked a bit.

I'm too lazy to host everything on imageshack (Zilvia's vBulletin doesn't like my main image server's image outputs), write up for those interested available here:

Yea, I was thinking about doing it that way - didn't think about it til I was halfway through cutting the aluminum tho, haha.

I'll get it better next bumper. For now, it doesn't bother me all that much.
