View Full Version : Where to find bolts for 3 piece wheels?

I bought a set of 3 pce wheels from Panda Garage and decided to take them apart to repaint or powdercoat them but I stripped a few of the nuts and am going to have to cut the nut off, ruining the bolts.

Anybody know where I can get some more? They are Speed Star Hasemi ProtGT wheels and the bolts are a weird little 12 point 10mm w/ a kind of stepped surface on the shoulder of the bolt head (the part that seats down against the wheel). The appear to be chrome too, look brand new even though the nuts were corroded.

Any ideas? Do most 3 and 2 pc wheels use the same kind of fasteners?

Here's a pic of the bolts:

Wow, thank you. Talk about insanely fast respone, Zilvia FTW tonight :) I sent that seller an email.

I'm beginning to regret buying used JDM wheels considering all the work it's taking to get them presentable. I probably should have just spent a couple hundred more and got some clean 1 pce wheels here, oh well, this is how you learn I guess.

Well, I got those nuts off w/o ruining the bolts this morning, thankfully.

Any tips on seperating the disk from the barrel? That sucker's in there tight and I don't want to bend anything getting it out. I've got it soaking in PB Blaster and I've been hitting the back of the disk w/ a rubber mallet in kind of a circular pattern but I don't think that's gonna cut it..

When I took my Volk Meshies apart to paint it was on good. You'll just have to man handle it with that rubber mallet. I just beat on it till the face fell through the barrels. Then take a scraper to get the sealant from between the barrels and use a small prybar to seperate them. GL.

i redid my work rs-b for my integra
and after i took of the bolts
i just used a mallet from the back of the spokes and it came loose:P

good luck with yours and check the Seal
if needed by reseal it
shops charge ~100-150 to reseal

i used silicone from osh (window clear stuff)
and it held fine
was at the track 2 times during summer and it held

also dont lose any nuts
there really hard to find
sized m7

Got 'em apart this afternoon, it wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be. Just took a 5lb hammer and a block of wood on the center of the disk and they popped right out (rubber mallet wasn't cutting it!).

The nuts are hard to find or the bolts? I didn't realize the nuts would be odd sized, I've got about 5-6 of them that are stripped beyond use now due to my lack of proper tool-age at the house:( once I got them to work I borrowed the right 10mm swivel tool that made it easy.

Also, these are real 3 pce wheels but the two halves of the barrel have been tig'd together so they don't seperate. There's a silicone bead spread all around the weld, I guess to seal it incase there might be any pin holes in the weld. Is that common, I though part of the point of 3 pce wheels was that they are easy to replace bent halves if you bend them?

Now I gotta decide what color I want them and if I want to paint them myself or have them powdercoated. Any opinions?

Then am I wrong to assume that you have 2 piece wheels? My BBS RS look like this when disassembled.

Well, I don't know for sure but I think being 3 piece means they are actually produced in 3 pieces (like yours and mine) but the difference being they welded my two barrel halves together. I think I read somewhere that this is sometimes done by the manufacturer but I'm not exactly sure why, maybe to reduce the chance of leaking I guess. But then why not just spin the barrel out of one piece of alum.?

On the other hand, maybe these are considered 2 piece. I don't know.

Your wheels are 3 piece (well technically 3 piece "construction" if they are welded together)

That VW BBS thread has info about bolt suppliers. But like someone said, ebay has them too. GL.

I usually just go down to my local commercial hardware vendor with a set and get as many as I need. Have 2 fastener(nut&bolt) stores here.

Contact a wheel shop.. That's what I did for my Simmons wheels. It gets expensive though haha..

Just replace them all with regular allen bolts. Chrome is gay anyways and you can get the allen bolts at pretty much any hardware store.
