Megan vs. greddy turbo elbow

Ok before i begin, i know greddy is a better product than megan hands down.

BUT, what i really wanna know is, is it worth it to sell the megan elbow that came on the engine i got and get a greddy or will the gains be minimal and the megan will get the job done? I will be running a gt2871r .64 a/r.

To me its just an elbow, I've had both Megan and Tomei installed on my SR, didn't notice any difference at all *just gives you that baller look etc... I say replace it when it breaks, use your money on other things, cams, injectors, valve springs etc...

Greddy elbow does have a divider on the inside that is suppose to give you better response.

I use the megan one before and now have the greddy one for like two years now.

Can't tell the difference.

All the divorced outlet elbows say they're better for spool blah blah blah

I've heard they make no difference unless you're running a bigger t2 turbo (i.e. GT2871R etc), when they will help with boost creep.

I've also heard that the regular elbows make more power and flow better than the divorced ones.

Any input?

EDIT: Do people still but slits between runners on manifolds? I'm doing my swap tomorrow night/Saturday/Sunday. I remember reading some time ago that people cut the flanges between the runners to help warpage or something of the sort. I just got my SSAC ( I know, I know) and was trying to figure out if I should do that.

Regardless, I think I'm taking the elbow and manifold and having the flanges all resurfaced to make sure the level, because the turbo flange on the elbow definitely isnt. LOL

the greddy has the divider, i had one before and got another one for this car because i know it works well, but i can't really offer anything "comparison"-wise

I hear the megan racing studs have a tendancy to strip easier. As if they use a less quality stud. It has happened to about 3 people i know. I love my Tomei

i actually have a turbo elbow from ichiba which is pretty good had it for about 2 1/2 yrs. has the blktop 02 sensor fitting.

Well I know what it is... LOL I just wondered, performance wise, if anyone had anything to say about it. I heard the regular style "wide mouth" ones flowed better and made more power. I've also heard you get better response/spool with this style, so I dunno. I'm thinking about cutting it here and closing the hole off in the actual DP and make a longer "screamer pipe" to weld here and make the wastegate open dump.

an actual HKS unit.

They still will fit, with a heat gun and a BFH.
But he had to bash the shit out of it.
To even make it fit.

ive had megan, it cracked and was shit quality, ive since had 2 different greddys on 2 different turbo setups and have never had a problem

I have the same one as you (Top Speed,same made in china pipe diff name). I haven't installed it yet so I can't tell you how it fits but, when I ordered it from IntensePower I receved a call from a sales rep asking if i had an s13 or s14 chassis.Reason being from what the guy said is in the s13 it fits fine but the s14 has fitment issues due to mounts and steering coloumn.

I have a megan/xs power / ebay one.

It works, and it wont crack if you use the downpipe support on the tranny.

My megan cracked in like a month and my greddy cracked in a year.

The megan wasn't worth repairing but the greddy welded back up nicely.

That was the difference I noticed.

I've got the tomei one to replace the hks one that was on my clip, the only real "bad" thing I've heard about the greddy style (divorced inlets) is that where the divider ends there can be turbulence due to the exhaust mixing, don't know if that makes any difference but I also remember that with certain turbos you cant use the greddy one as the divider plate comes out past the flange doesn't it?

just checked and yes, both the cs and greddy divider plates extend out from the flange, and if I remember correctly the s15 turbo has a mini divorce plate in it as well, meaning one of them would have to cut or removed (probably the same on some other turbos as well) my theory for when I bought mine is that tomei builds some crazy ass engines, I would assume they know what they're doing meaning you probably dont need that separator anyway

edit: to answer your question, if its already on the engine I wouldn't worry about it, its there and leaving it there will both save you time and aggravation, not to mention money

Ive had an actual Night Pager Screamer pipe and fucking HATED it. I slapped on a Tomei elbow after it and it made a night and day difference on my car.

As far as MR or Greddy. I had Greddy in the states. I had an MR manifold and a Greddy elbow with my GT2871R. Heres what I can attest about the topic. I was driving back up to norcal from socal, passing thru the grapevines. Certain parts of I-5 is reaaaaally shitty. Needless to say I bottomed out hard enough that I literally broke the 5 bolts holding the elbow in place. They were sheared right off...I expected that elbow to break off at the flange...

has a Divorced Section w/ a Little flap that sits inside the turbo...ALl I can say is I had a Megan elbox w/ a regular 3" D/p and it was fine....though Speedbumps @ work are MONSTERS so I got this.

Instant Boost and Torque is felt Immead w/ this Pipe!!!Sounds like a Subaru also w/ the piping the way it is.
I had to even question the Orig seller if that was the way its supposed to Sound.the pipe is damn near 4" wide but only like an inch Tall where its Flattens.That must be the reason it sounds the way it does.Quick Spool and take off.

I am Running it into a 3" test pipe and then A "Concrete Wall" of a Stock S13 exhaust.I can only imagine when I get an Exhaust how Loud It would be w/ that D/P.Its not That loud....but full open Turbo back w/ a loud exhaust would be Extra loud..but sounds Really good.Its my daily so I don't want it too loud.

I've had some Ebay brand for almost 4 years. I don't know if it's top speed or xs power or megan, but im sure they are all the same thing.

like someone said, if you mount all the hangers on the exhaust, you will not have any extra stress on any of your exhaust pipes.

i have a megan on the car now....noticed a nice difference in spool up time over the the stock cast piece. As of right now, it hasnt been a problem.

but be warned, the hardware and gaskets the provide suck, so get new oem if you can.

As of right now, i have a new tomei outlet sitting in my basement, waiting to go on when the new turbo assembly gets its shit together.

I have the CS elbow. It is cast stainless, divided, and comes with new OEM Nissan studs. I like it, clears everything fine and is pretty nice.

Yah doesn't really matter.... BUT.... I have had the problem of taking off the O2 when it was used on my car. Basically maybe cause the bung is completely cheap metal on the elbow, that it basically fused to the O2 Sensor and I had to get a new one. I have taken off the O2 on the greddy one and no problem. So that is really the only thing for me
