E36 Killed my flying wheel

I think this is something that is pretty rare. I would love to find out how the wheel got off and was able to do that.

I was driving from Cleveland to DC onetime and an big rigg's wheel flew off infront of me, shit passed me in mid-air looked in my rear view to see it bounce across 4 fucking lanes of toll road and tag the front end of a minivan going the opposite direction.

I got infront of the truck and made him stop about a mile down the road when I was on the phone with 911. Completely fucking destroyed the front of the mini-van and permanently freaked out the family in it. I gave my info to the cops and got back on the road. Talking with the trucker he was like "shit happens man." Lol. Dude didn't give a fuck.

Id be pissed if it happened to me. Happy to be alive though, looks like that guy coulda had some massive injuries if it hit his drivers door.

Ya'll know what a brick can do dropped from an overpass. Add 40lbs to that and a speed of 50mph. Damage doesnt suprise me.

No it was the whole wheel. Lept a highway barrier and kept up with me at 60mph for a good few seconds. It was on a mission.

Ya, last year out of the locals 5 people lost wheels. I do not know how.... But I always double check my wheels on all my vehicles. Right when they go back on the ground and then once before we leave the shop we go around and do them all again.

Happened to me once. I rented a new BMW 3 from LA and was driving on the 57north in 4am heading to Vegas.

It was raining and I was going 85mph and suddenly I saw this truck tire in the middle of the road standing. By the time I saw it, it was only a car length in front of me and I was like "shii---" and it hit me before I finish that word.

The airbag popped and radiator was all busted. The car was total, lucky I had insurance.

The cops couldn't find the "tires" I hit after, I still wonder what I had hit that night. Give me chills sometimes when I think about it.

No, it is a knock off wheel. I'm guessing you weren't around in the early 90's.

And to me, it looks like the car was previously wrecked and someone sat the wheel there and took the pic. Just my .02

Yeah, I believe they're supposed to be reverse threaded all around.

Most sanctioning bodies require knockoffs to be safety-wired in place because of the ease with which they depart from the car. My buddy has a set of fake Halibrands with knockoffs on his '67 fastback and he smacks the everliving shit out of them with a 3-pound deadweight so he won't have problems.

Ha ha, that reminds me. A few years back I am cruising down the I-17N (Arizona) and this Sentra with those 12" tall extreme negative offset mexican wheels was putting along. Out of nowhere his driver's side front wheel just pops off of the car and his brake rotor immediately carves a glowing red groove in the road surface. They attempt to get off to the shoulder, mean while their wheel continued on the freeway for another 2 miles until it hit something and lost it's spin. I lol'd.
