So lately I've been going fishing, and crabbing up here north in the bay area.
The past few weekends, I've gone out to the Golden Gate bridge piers and setting traps. Me and some friends been catching lots of crabs, and it tastes sooo delicious. I'm in love! <3

Here are some left overs after our grub fest earlier today.
This was our catch from last night, We caught roughly 50 crabs.

http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff221/AntzPrincess/DSCN0974.jpg

Anyone in the bay down to go out and catch some crab or fish anytime? I have 5 crabnets, 1 cage, and a few fishing poles.
I mainly fish on the weekends, its become a hobby. I'm planning on going out to the deep sea, and fighting some big ones out there :D

If any local, wants some crab. Let me know. I have plenty of left overs ;)

No doubt.

Closest thing we have to that here is fishing off the pier, but I'm not 90 or a grandchild... so it doesn't look to tempting haha.

Most of the crab and fish in general are from the bay.

This is the same stuff they sell at the wharfs, and restraunts.

crabbing is so easy, i used to go with my friend before he took off to iraq. i used to go pole-picking for eel's and rockfish too. oh yeah anthony, my homegirl got so lucky one time, she was pulling up the crab net and she fucking caught a rockfish PLUS crabs! the lucky fucker.

Buy/make one of these http://nylonnet.com.ismmedia.com/ISM2/MerchandiseManager/34.gif.100.gif
get a nice big piece of chicken (thigh or drumstick), or a bigass fishhead and put iit into a bait cage
http://www.addictivetackle.com/images/products/preview/661876.jpg
then tie the bait cage onto the bottom of the crab net. Tie a long nylon rope to the crab net and then toss it into the water and crack a beer. I usually give it about 10-15 minutes before hauling it up.

Edit: All this talk about crabbing made me miss the Bay Area. I can't wait to go home.

That is technically true, but even thought they are from the "bay", many crabs arent actually from inside the "bay".

If you caught things "in the bay" (from golden gate bride and anything toward the inland), I would not eat a great quantity of it.

There also restriction rock crab must be 6in in diameter and No dungeness crab are allow to be kept if caught "inside the bay" because that is one of their breeding grounds. I know a guy who crab for a living and transport from Oregon to SF to sell to restaurant and the wharf. So even though some place say their crab are from the bay, it not withing the bay.

If you go crabbing off Van Ness in SF (where many ppl go), keep the feast to a mininum. There was a warning to eat so many serving a week or something like that.

Keep it safe and keep an eye out for fish and game. I seen people getting busted for keeping dungeness crab and undersize crab when they are not suppose to.

That is true.
If you get caught catching dungeness crab. It is a $500 fine for EACH one.
It is also true that they do breed them in the bay area alone.

I've never been to Vaness, but in general I heard not to eat too much of the crab you catch yourself. When I do eat them, I make sure to take out all the bad meat.

i went last night.. only took 3 home which is pretty sucky compared to how we do on average(20+). yea..make sure not to keep them dungies inside the gate. try pacifica if you wanna take some keepers home. isn't the red/rock crab size limit 5" across? i coulda sworn, someone go check regulations.

i use to fish a lot(2-3 times a week)..but have slowed down recently. although i do eat a lot of what i catch, its mostly for sport/recreation. im always down to rip some lip. holladeezy.

so about 4 months ago I went up to the gay bay to do some crabbing with a friend from fresno, so we go to one of the piers, and I swear I almost killed a fucking seal. that motherfucker, he ate thru 3 of our crab nets, and I eventually started to just ziptie the net were the holes were out and put hole cans of viena sausage and shit like that in it, dumb fuck at that too, but long story short watch out for the seals. I was starting to hope I would see a shark come and eat his ass.

downshift_sideways
04-28-2008, 09:28 PM
Very common for seals to steal your bait.

I had a friend almost fall in because a seal tugged the line.

I remember my grandad used to take me crabbing at the beach when I was a little kid.
But we never used pots like that, we just used the big ass trapezoidal hooks made out of sharpened clotheshanger wire and stuck chicken livers on them, then ran them down under the dock with string and pulled it up after getting a bite.
Stupid ass things would just cling onto the clotheshanger not wanting to let go of the chicken and you could pull them up.
Took forever, but I have a feeling he was trying to get us annoying ass kids away from our mom and dad for a while anyway.

I'll definately bump this when I go to the beach in July, my brothers and I get trashed and surf fish for pretty much an entire week.

Andrew Bohan
04-30-2008, 01:29 AM
i used to go scuba diving and just pluck crabs right off the bottom.

you have to carry a ruler with you though, cuz when you're diving you're not even allowed to touch crabs that are too small.

Is that a sturgeon? Where do you catch that?

This looks like a lot of fun. Too bad I'm 3,000 miles away.

No real cause to complain though, I'm on the OTHER bay in the US known to produce shit tons of crab (Chesapeake), and so I suppose there's no reason I could take some people out there and do the same thing.

I've really only fished for bass recently, I can walk to a couple lakes from my house.
