ok guys this has been a long time in discusion with my partner.
I am old school as far as the Japanese Import Engine business goes . I used to run Sun Performance Imports in the San Francisco bay area in Palo Alto. My partner ran Specialty Imports in San Jose.
We are opening up a new place in mid December in Livermore most likely. We will be selling SR clips , suspension stuff etc.
We will have the official company name later this week. We want to cater to the bay area and norcal specifically.

Dave aka dpro aka drift freaq.

P.S. yes I will have a Gun Metal Grey S13 Hatch sporting an SR
with JIC suspension

congrats on opening a new swap shop, dave. will u still be catering the SoCal market, tho?

I will be dealing with some small stuff here in socal myself, but I also have socal shops that I am aligned with. I will refer some of the socal business to them depending on what it is.

any idea about clip pricing ? and will you guys be doing installs as well ?

drift freaq
11-18-2002, 09:02 PM
we will be doing installs. I will not speculate on exact clip prices till I see mileage. Clip prices will be based on
S13 SR redtops varying by mileage
S13 SR blacktops varying by mileage
S14 Blacktops
S15 blacktops

will also have access to pulsar motors i.e. GTir and RB's

I have a few questions to ask you about the shop and some other issues. Its nice to see a shop openning up on the east bay for once. Anyways please hit me up...

im in san jose. sounds great to have a shop up here. anyways just wanted to do a background check. not to doubt you or anything but we gotta know. what cars have you done, do you have access to show these cars or something to tell us the customer you wont screw us over? i have nothing against you but i just want a good place i can go and refer people to, you know? theres not lots in the bay area, none actually. one person i know got his swap done by signal auto, and that looks like the only way to go to get it done right. so let us know what you have to offer, what if something went wrong with the engine you installed or something? do you know the SR inside and out? installing it correctly and all. in no way am i trying to offend you, so dont take the questions the wrong way.

we are asscociated with Cartune/Neishlin Motors . In fact we are most likely going to be Cartune North.
We are doing installs . Our mechanics are being trained by Neishlins mechanics on the installs. I myself went to De Anza Auto tech the third best Automotive technology school in the Nation. I am not doing installs myself that is the mechanics jobs . I do know SR's if you read my opening post you would see I am very well schooled in Nissan engines.
There are several swap shops here in socal that do quality work besides signal auto.
Our goal is to bring the cleanest possible clips we can to you and to provide clean stock locking installs. Our installs we will be warranted with our engines installed by us. Engines purchased from us will have a run gurantee.
Seeing as we have not opened yet we cannot show you are installs. Though I can say that the quality will be of the same caliber as Cartune. Its in our best interest to provide this service this way. We are not a fly by night operation we are very serious about this.
nothing personal but if you feel Signal Auto is the only shop in California who seems to be able to do a swap right. You have not done your research well enough.
Like I said earlier I can list several shops here socal that do the installs and do them right. I know most of these people on a personal basis.
If you are skeptical then let us open up and prove to you what we can do.
If you want to see Cartunes work there are a lot of people running their swaps in the 240 world and in the MR2 world.
thank you for your interest and questions .

I have talked to cartune before and i was very impressed. They know what they are doing and i was planning to drive my car down to them to do my swap. now that i know that you are asscociated with cartune i am going to change my plans and send the car most likely to you. Do you know about when the shop will be open? Are your prices going to be about the same as cartune? Anyways I am happy and excited to hear the shop will be opening up on the east bay. I can't wait to see it open.

I'm not interested in an sr20det, but I do have an 89 that I would like to get a DOHC Motor in.. Would you guys also do KA24E to KA24DE swaps? I'm sure after doing a few swaps you'll have some laying around..

good to hear there finally a shop where teh sr people can go for quality help. But also u should try to instal more tahn jusst because there are so many people with 240sx that wants a sr. Another good idea i think would be have a grand opening thing where all 240sx can go? that would be a cool way to do business and throw some kind of meet/opening.
just an idea so food for thought

keep us posted i'll be sure to come check it out
learn to dyno tune n i'll be there more often

well we could , I do not know how often or how many people really want that. Of course you must remember a lot of times the DOHC's that get pulled for SR swaps have pretty high mileage on them. OF course we could probably help you out bboy

trsilvia thanks for the meet suggestion I was alraedy thinking about that. Seeing as I am a avid 240 enthusiest. Plus I am a ex bay area kid to start with . I grew up in Palo Alto .
As far as dyno tuning one step at a time. Lifts are 10-20 thousand dollar items . Floor dyno's are 60 thousand dollar items.
We would love to get to that point . Though right now we need to concentrate on getting the space in Livermore locked down and get up and running there.
We will definitely have some clips for sale as of the 15th of dec so I will have some prices for the interested parties soon. like I said before I do not want to quote hard prices till we see the mileage on the clips. They will be low mileage it just depends on how low
We are very excited about this. excited as you guys are. we want to bring the community a great place and give the bay area something that we feel is long overdue.

thanks again guys and keep the posts coming I will try to answer all questions.

Peaceout , dpro

Wow, mid-December. That's coming up soon. You should make a post in NorCal's mailing list (http://mm.norcal240sx.org/list/listinfo.alpha/norcal240sx). And I like that grand opening with 240SXs idea. :)

11-22-2002, 05:15 PM
way to go... finally a shop that we can all know and trust in norcali, i can't hardly wait...... and if there was some sort of grand opening i would for sure want to go to wish you the best of luck. the market's already here, just look at the norcal thread... do you have an adress already??

drift freaq
11-24-2002, 05:04 PM
ok guys, I thought I would try and post a little update here.
previously it was asked if our prices would be in line with Cartunes and yes they will be. There may be a variance but not a large one . We are trying to provide you guys with a reliable source, that is not asking you to give us money, without seeing the clips or having a mileage figure. We also feel that any business that is going to sell you a clip should have it as a in stock product. Not one that you are getting sight unseen.
Our location is under lease negotiation and I do not have an address as of yet beyond the fact it will most likely be in Livermore. We will have clips with pics availible on the 15th of Dec .I stated previously we would open by the 15 of Dec this is technically correct as far as our resale license and state registration as a business entity goes. As far as the space itself goes we are trying to keep it on a fastrack to having it open completely in Dec . We will make arrangements with norcal240sx.org for a official meet as the Grand Opening and we will see about Cartune bringing up a few of their cool shop cars for you to see .

once again we are happy to be of service to you guys and look forward to working with and meeting you in the near future.

P.S. anyone who wants to meet me in person I will be in the bay area this week after tues . You know doing that thanksgiving thing with the family

yes indeed we will be carrieing spare SR parts. In fact in the very near future we are going to have a full SR Gasket set. Including metal head gasket at the price of what you would expect to pay for the Tomei metal head gasket alone. hehehehe thats a little top secret info I thought I would leak.
glad to see your still around Takumi

ok guys . I have been thinking about this. I have not mentioned CA18DETs because they are old and not as many are availible but I will look into it.
I do know we can get them.
the reason I decide to mention them is because I have seen a few of you expressing interest on other parts of the forum. I will check into the situation this week we should be able to bring a few in and stock them.

thats great news! i have been casing out neishlin for a long time and was trying to figure out whether I should try to order an engine from them. There's only one guy around here in NM that's done an Sr swap and it was an s15 into the s14. The owner wasn't very happy with the work, so I have not been too eager to try to have him do my s13 or 14 into the s14 chassis. I hope to do the swap in 2003, but that would probably mean driving the car out there and staying with my friend in the Bay area while you guys do the swap. do you think that's a good idea?

Projectsiliva1. glad to hear from another bay area person same goes out to addidassheath.

It is currently going through customs as soon as it clears we will get to work taking pics and posting with a URL. Also prices. We are still working on the lockdown on the space due to the madness of bay area real estate prices. We will get it though.

ya its getting closer . The container is is customs it could be cleared as soon as the 15th and as late as the 25th. The docks are still not quite up to speed. i.e. they are still playing catch up from the lockout.
My partner is looking like mad at spaces all over Livermore. Reason being we want to keep the overhead down so we can deliver the deals. .
