I'd say point out that to get a 240 and to not know how to work on it is monetary suicide, I have 8k in my s14 and the car is pretty much stock (all parts on the back yard) or point out all the obvious reasons not to get a 10+ year old car like

faded paint
non-functional A/C
shitty interiors
quite a few have been in accidents
they are far from safe (although your friend seems like an unsafe driver anyway)
the constant need for new parts, if all goes as planned with my suspension/chassis mods it will cost me over 6k in parts alone not to mention time

tell him about the constant time vacuum that a modded car creates, if he has a job and is going to school he probably wont have enough time to work on it, and if its like mine it WILL die from time to time and if he doesnt have a backup, hes fucked. also the more modded a car gets, the more temperamental it gets (usually) like ok, now its turbo but a/f ratio is boned. have to get that fixed. damn need new injectors and a new fuel rail to get it to work with that new turbo.

if that doesnt work, make up some shit, horrible stories, or show him some videos of horrific crashes from people who didnt know what they were doing behind the wheel, all because they wanted to be a "drifter" or just mention that practically all "drifters" are practically broke most of the time and that women hate broke dudes with shit box cars

or if even that fails, go over his head and talk to his parents, show them the videos and monetary cost of this, tell his mom of the dangers of drifting in a car with a 2 star crash rating (I think thats what the s14 has right?)

if that doesn't work then he has shitty parents, and I vote cuban necktie time

so one of my friends is in need of a new car, and he wants a 240. Seeing him get one would ruin my life, because I know he doesn't understand what they are and just wants to be a "drifter!"

One: He's a horrible driver. He doesn't even know how to drive stick.

Two: He doesn't know ANYTHING about cars, let alone silvias. He is apparently obsessed with the "drift image" but knows nothing about it or what hes getting into.

Three: His mommy is paying for it all because he wrecked his TL.
