Is...............

Battle Gear 4. Fucking drift mode, rules. Since i'm getting better, I just want to keep playing. Shit costs over a dollar, per play, so it's driving me broke. Gotta love the right hand drive + 6 speed manual + clutch. Who plays it?

Never heard of it. I want to try it, though!

Cars? Physics? Tuning Capabilities?

Even that's new for me. I remember that only the games with wide screens were 50 cents. 25 cents was the standard on most games. But that was street fighter 1 days.

The car dynamics are pretty dead on. For example, playing tight drift course, with an overpowered car (fd, supra, etc) is really hard. My favorite car, is the fc, 180, s15. One car that supposedly handles well in real life, but didn't do good in the game at all, was the mini cooper S. The only downfall of this game, is that you can't drift battle. So, what me and my friends do, is we both drift the same course, and see who gets the higher points. The drifting is pretty dead on, except for the clutch kicking, which doesn't seem to work that well. You guys gotta try it though. Fucking rocks!! :aw:

Can't see the pic. Online account to mod your car? That's awesome. Wish the U.S. version was like that. Actually, I wish it was like the Initial D arcade, where you can save your info on a card. That would make it even better.

I play initial D at home (steering wheel, special stage for ps2 imported) and every single.. yes every single 2d fighter, from street fighter to jojos bizarre adventure..

Im gonna bump this thread.

Battle gear 4 has a clutch and six speed manual??? I go to play at arcade infinity and there is no clutch. Great arcade game though, way better then stupid initial d and that midnight wangan bs. at AI its 50cents. well, this is two years later.

I used to play BG3 HARDCORE. There's a few great Asian arcades in my city that usually imports the more popular games from overseas. I've got quite a few BG3 keys still. I've also got it for PS2 (Japanese LE).

I've had the chance to play the 4th version but that was a while ago.

Initial D version 3 is king.

with the advancement of consoles and PCs, console setups are killing arcades imo.. esp when you invest in a nice steering wheel.

Hopefully someone will rip the rom from battlegear games and run them on PC emulators =)

Initial-D v3 is where I stopped trying to be hella competitive.

Though Battle Gear 3 was fun to mess with while my, 'card was up'.

They had those nifty keys that looked real.

Battle Gear is so sick. I never found found any arcades in socal that sold the key though.

i was playing battle gear 4 tuned or something like that when i visited philippines. so addicting. the tuned has clutch and 6 speed, regular BG4 only has the up and down and no clutch i think.

i reallly miss when the brand new shit was 50 cents and everything over a year old was a quarter.

$1 is a lot per play, but new arcade games have all these new peripherals are totally different than the ones in the 70s, 80s, and 90s.

dancing games with pads, speakers, handle bars;
racing games with steering wheels, seats, speakers, dual monitor displays; rhythm games with guitars, drums, etc.

probably cost $30k for brand new arcades. the owner has to make back the money somehow, even charging $1/per play, 1000 plays is only $1000, plus cost electricity, maintenance, etc.

Yeah, cabs aren't cheap. And these high tech ones are a lot more complicated which means more things can go wrong. Or general maintenance from people beating on the machines.
