A friend of a friend photoshopped this and it made me think. Years from now, after we've all grown old and started to die, are the next generation of tuners going to see the potential in this GTR and want that "old school" car to be their project? It seems as though, that that's the only natural way to think about it, but you have to admit it is inevitable. What do you guys think about the car of tomorrow, becoming the car of yesteryear?

I don't think this will occur until humans are gone.

That completely slipped my mind lol. OK, so hypothetically, do you think it could happen?

That's hilarious I was just thinking about this last night, not about the gtr, but about other cars that will be projects when they're 16+ years old.

maybe if Bonderant buys it, did anyone see how fucked up the clean ass kouki 14 that they bought from Jay Pizarro ended up at formula D in long beach? it used to be silver now it is baby blue with some shit offset wheels, and has gay vinals on it. i would say that is on the same path as the photoshopped gtr you just put up.

I don't ever see myself driving an electric car.
You can't replace combustion.

So in the future, Everyone will be driving on electric while I putt putt away to the nearest petrol station.

^ Who says you need to use petrol for combustion... people don't realize you can make a lot more power with some alternative fuels while not producing as many emissions. The world is moving forward and just because fuel may change it doesn't mean cars will get slower and it doesn't mean that combustion will disappear.

Anyway when the oil supplies eventually get slim you'll be paying 40-50 dollars for a gallon of gasoline at one point.

you guys are silly, by the time GT-R's would be "old school" we wont even be driving anymore. all vehicles will be auto-piloted. and gas will be unheard of. the only two sources will be electric cars, and maybe hydrogen, but they will probably skip to full electric anyways.

WanganRunner
04-25-2008, 01:19 PM
I'm not sure the auto-piloting thing will ever come to fruition just because it wouldn't work nearly as well in rural areas where cars often need to go over/around things and there isn't as much infrastructure.

I DO see, however, major urban areas becoming totally off-reach to cars and being accessed by public transit or hired vehicles only. The "congestion" taxes in London and other cities are the start of this trend.

Electric cars are definitely going to happen and it's only going to be an advantage in regards to performance. It's inherently inefficient to PRODUCE the power onboard as in a gas engine, why not produce it in a power plant with better economies of scale and then simply USE it onboard the vehicle?

People shit on electrics now because batteries and motors are heavier than internal combustion, but wait until the technology advances and an entire powertrain weighs as much as a full gas tank does today. There's only so much you can shrink an internal combustion powertrain because of how displacement works and because you need liquid fuel, but how small can you make a battery? Is there a limit? Probably, but I bet it's fucking SMALL and LIGHT compared to anything we know today.

Ultimately, any advance in automobile engineering wherein the car can get away with doing less onboard and thus save weight is going to yield advantages. The max torque from 0rpm isn't a bad thing either, nor is the fact that a great many more things will be tunable simply from software.

Additionally, if we end up just putting motors in each wheel, the batteries can go anywhere and that opens up a lot more options in regards to weight distribution across the vehicle. It will also mean that torque outputs at each wheel can be changed much more precisely, again probably just via software.

Oh, and I have no doubt that they will, but I still surmise they will be largely relegated to duties like taxis, buses, and the like.

The market for "go anywhere, do anything" self-piloted vehicles won't go anywhere for awhile, at least not in rural areas.

Again, just my opinion/theory, I don't claim to be able to see the future.

Still wouldn't drive electric cars.
Even if it goes 10,000,000 mph.

Unless someone GIVES it to me, I don't see MYSELF buying one.
Maybe for the future wifey, or whatever.

So how come? Not trying to instigate, but I'm just curious. If the performance is the same, what is it about internal combustion that makes it more appealing?

I didn't know plastic can rust.

Anyways. I suspect in the next 50 years maybe sooner we will be out of oil and in the dark ages. All that cars/bikes/etc will be good for is fire wood.
