hey guys my car is consuming oil about 1 quart in about 3 weeks and i can see some oil around my the headgasket so i figured that my headgasket is bad so my question is, is it hard to replace the head gasket? i kinda have a little bit of mechanical skills but i dont know if its enough. the things that ive installed to my car are exhaust, intake, coilovers, tie rods, ruca, replaced the valve cover gasket and im about to do a manual swap by myself next month so do you guys think i could do it or just let a shop do it? btw im going ka-t thats why im concerned about this.. thanks

before you get flame. download the fms and follow what they tell you to do. thats what i did to rebuild my sr. i only have little skills about motors. but enough to finish and get it working. make sure you look around and search before you start taking apart. good luck.

a head gasket install is easy. you remove everything that is in the way, loosen the head bolts in the proper order (of course after removing the valve cover and head components to get to the bolts, remember to mark the postition of everything).

i suggest un-bolting the intake mani and exhaust mani to make this easier. if you wana make an omlette you have to break some eggs my friend.

installation of the head gasket is the oppostite of removal. make sure you clean the mating surfaces of the block/head thoroughly, acetone does the trick usually. anytime you remove the head bolts, you need to use new head bolts/studs due to metal fatigue. do it right the first time.

If you have little mechanical experience it would be best to find someone that has, take it to a shop, or have someone assist you on it.

Removing the head will take you roughly 2-3hrs if its your first time. And if you do decide to tackle it yourself make sure you use the FSM and refer to it like a bible.
