sr20?? i don't see why not. if it's cheap and local then go for it. i wouldn't attempt very high boost levels with it, but seeing as how it's designed for a similar displacement turbo 4 cylinder it kinda makes sense. It's probably quite a bit better than a side mount, but it's still not the same as a big aftermarket aluminum IC

The Evo 9 runs 19.5psi stock (without getting in to details, mine did this stock whereas anything from 16psi to 23psi has been reported depending on the build date)... greater than 90%+ of SR20 owners are running.

stock boost level for an evo 9 is 19.5psi?!?!?!?! well shit, if that's the truth then you can go to town on it with the SR

If you don't know what you're talking about, don't post. Simple as that.
I was talking to the guys at roadraceengineering.com when I was buying all the stuff to fab my intercooler pipes and exhaust and they swear by the stock evo intercoolers.

Okay. I'll get it. Now I just need the piping.

I'm using a EVO intercooler. I run 15-16 psi daily with my SR and as high as 21 psi. No problems at all.

The EVO's factory FMIC is good up to 400hp to the wheels.

you can boost up to 25psi or so before it becomes a restriction. trust.

I guess that will be my only problem.

IIRC doesnt the EVO intercooler have the cold side coming back to the right side? So thats the only thing that sucks about it, gonna have to fabricate and figure out a way to run the cold pipe.

Im using a evo intercooler that i got from my evo... It's awesome... My evo pushed 28 psi on that intercooler... So i don't see a problem with high boost on the intercooler... It makes the turbo spool up sick too... I didn't use much custom pipes either... I used the pipes i already had for my hybrid set-up.. I only had to use two small pipes to help with the angle of the evo's ic inlet and outlet pipes

Do you have any pics of the piping for the evo IC?

the only thing i dont like about evo ic's is the pipes come out of the endtanks pointing downward... the piping should be cake.

anyone who doubts the stock evo IC's ability are simply uninformed. it doesnt compare to a true 3 inch IC but for a stock unit, its a HUGE improvement over side-mounts. you can also get the nisei IC made for the evo with slightly better fitment too (doesnt have the endtanks pointing downwards). intake temp drop was significant and gained 1 psi right off the bat on my evo too.

they are very good intercoolers and have little to no pressure drop. id rock it if ur doing 2.5" intercooler pipes. any bigger it'd be stupid for that fmic.

have a bunch of friends running evo 8 and 9 intercoolers on various cars, none of them have any problems... piping shouldnt be so hard... if u get it cheap even better...
a friend of mine runned close de 23psi with that intercooler so i dont think ull be having problems if that is your concern...

the Evo 7 we were servicing for last year used a stock Evo IC and piping, 26 psi all the time, 320 hp and 495 ft/lbs of torque. The factory group A Evo 6 and Evo WRC Step II both used the koyo intercooler.
