i tried to search for it on the forum, but couldnt find any useful info. or maybe i overlooked some. anyways, while i was making a left turn, my 96 s14 (base model) suddenly died. before it died, i notice a weird noise, but i cant describe it. my car never sounded like that before. while it was dying, i notice that the steering wheel started to lock or got tightened. after it died, tried to jumpstart it, nothing. no loose terminal; the alternator is fine as well. when i turned the key, i heard nothing. no lights were on such as oil, check engine, e-brake, but i could turn on the headlight and the rear taillight was on. towed it to the shop, the guy couldnt seem to diagnose the problem. he said it was electrical, but just dont know the source of the problem. every time he worked on it, the fuse keeps on blowing.

side notes- on the same day, i got my 5-lug conversion done, with new brake line. afterward, bled the brakes. put on 350z rims that rub my fenders. test drove it for about 5 mins around the neighborhood, at 20-25 mph, no noise or knocking sounds.

-so my other theory is that when the shop did the 5 lug conversion, they might mess up or cut some wire or its just a coincidence that my car died the same day as the car was being worked on...and omg, after i drove the car home, i notice the weird noise as well. when i got home, found out that they put the rear tire in the front, so it rubbed the fender even more..bad luck :-(.

Could it be the starter, ignition switch that caused this problem? Thanks for reading. as u could tell, i dont know a lot about cars, so please as specific and descriptive as u can be.

sounds like an electrical shortage...check ur wiring harness under the hood and under ur dash board and also trace the fuse that blows out and get the chiltons auto manual or get a map of ur wiring diagram so that u can find the problem, suks man but good luck hopefully i have been sum help

yeah the car is lowered and maybe u're right that wheels just ate the wiring harness. i cant check it out yet since its at the shop (my friend's dad's auto repair shop). haha its been there for almost 2 weeks now.

check the main wire harness in your driver side fender well. If you didn't do the tuck or re-located it, you may have ate up ur wires and possibly shorted something. This will happen if you car is too low.

checked the wire harness, nothing has been cut. could it be the ignition?

i say its the distributor i had the same problem i was trying to race my friend down the street when my car jus took a shit i was pissed cuz i was winning the race.

Sounds like alternator fault or it could be a relay (green colour with nissan on it) on the alternator route is not working.

Is it the Main 35AMP ignition fuse that blowed?

I have this problem in my s13. I been tracing it for 4 weeks now. Never found it. I ripped the fenders off and the Dash out with No results. SO im basically having to re-wire my entire Ignition. It Blows Balls!!!

When you turn the key can you hear the fuel pump coming on?

Check your fuses, and I don't mean just looking at them, use a multimeter to check that voltage is going where it is supposed to.

I have a problem with the connector to the fuel pump fuse in my car and had to make custom fuses with thicker leads.

It sounds like something very simple. Are you getting power to everything including starter?

Could be lots of things. A broken timing chain, a bad crankshaft position sensor, a bad computer, a dead fuel pump... So many possibilities. Given the age of the car, several of the possibilities would not warrent fixing the beast. a real automobile repair shop (http://www.wrightimport.com/home.htm) will have to diagnose and give you the word.
If the engine died without any warning lights on the dash, it's doubful the alternator failed. Even with a dead alternator, the car would run fine for an hour or more just off the battery. A dead alternator would have light a warning light on the dash. If your husband saw such a light and continued to drive the car, shame on him!

If just the alternator was bad, the tow truck guy would have been able to restart the car with a jump!
