Alright, as of right now, I'm rocking a greddy downpipe on my s13sr. After breaking off a few bolts in the back of my turbo awhile back - and the PAIN it was to deal with that whole problem, decided to switch downpipes - with one that has a built in flex section.. OR if I have to, modify the stock greddy pipe by welding in a 3" flex section.

I've looked around a little for any good after market companies, mckinney motorsports makes one (but I've never heard anything about their exhaust pieces, only their rb mounting stuff) and from what I can gather, A'pexi's older model sr downpipe used to come with a flex section, but for some reason have started making only solid dp now:(

Basically, I'm looking for any advice, or any good resources any of you may have. Thanks in advance:)

just buy the flex section remove the downpipe and weld it in. might could be a badass and do it on the car

lol, it "might could" sit a little too close to the frame rail for that ;)

you dont have to put the flexpipe in the downpipe for it to be successful. you can weld it where your test pipe is. unless your rocking a cat for some reason.

well I plan on running a cat soon, ditching the test pipe. The fumes from uncatalyzed fuel give me a soar throat on longer trips.

thanks for the offer, But im trying to get away from megan, I'm already running the manifold/turbo outlet, and they're being replaced when the new turbo goes on.

Theres nothing wrong with megan Downpipe.
Ive had mine for 2 years now. My car was hella slammed, my exhaust/downpipe always scrape. I beat the shit out of my car at the race track....still good.

Im not running the elbow or manifolds.

But what im trying to say is, theres nothing bad about megan downpipe.

I believe the only other aftermarket one that still produces besides the only ones listed is the JVT one. http://phase2motorsports.stores.yahoo.net/jvt3fldosr.html
MySr20.com has a "their" type brand one also that just says stainless still downpipe with flex.

Good luck.

yeah I was just poking around and found that, I'm thinking either that one or a TF dump pipe.

a downpipe is a downpipe is a downpipe is a downpipe

ive got a megan racing downpipe with flex section on my car...ive had it for well over 2 1/2 years now...ive hit speed bumps with it...scraped the holy bejesus out of it...and guess what..its still fine...flex section is still in perfect shape

for some odd reason people think they need to spend a TON of money on a down pipe...its a goddamn 3 inch pipe that runs from you 02 housing that connects to the catalytic converter (or lack there of)...theyre all the same...only difference is megans has a flex pipe which is simply better for the life of your turbo if you catback is heavy and moves around alot (wont rock your turbo loose or break studs)

Quoted for truth. I see more people switching away from expensive/JDM manifolds, elbows, and downpipes to Megan because, hey, they all do the same job.

The Megan downpipe may sit too far below the frame rail on your car (depending on condition of the motor mounts and tranny mount), so for optimal clearance, you may want to chop it and have it rewelded. When you consider that your Greddy one is worth some $$$ used, and a flex pipe alone is going to run you ~$70, getting a Megan with the flex pipe is a no brainer.

megan is out of the question. I own the parts, I'm not satisfied with the quality.. its just not up to par with what I want on my car... call me a snob, its fine. I am ;) lol Its not like I didnt give them a chance, I've had no problems with either one of the exhaust pieces I have, I just don't like the quality of them - and don't trust it.

Its not like I'm looking for the one with the best design, besides the CS one, they all scrape, I'm just looking for one with a decent price, and good quality. Its not like I plan on spending a lot to begin with, the other options, besides megan, are around the $110-$125 range. If it was about the money, I would've stopped building the car 10k ago. :keke:

But keep on the look out, the manifold, elbow, lines, and downpipe will all be up for grabs. T25 is already spoken for though.

Just have a 3" flex pipe added to your current dp then ~ I guarantee it won't look as good as the Megan, but you'll feel better.

I run the megan w/ the flex section as well. No probs for the past 6mo. Works great. Beats buying a brand name one for 2x as much and then having to fork out extra for the flex section and paying to have it welded in. My 2cents, sell your greddy dp that you have, get a megan for $100 or less and call it a day.

I personally am the same way you are. I bought the motor from a friend that kept good upkeep on it, but had that stupid POS Megan manifold on it. Horrible discoloration, built to crack, I hate em. I wouldn't say I wouldn't run the downpipe tho, but I've also read it wasn't full 3 inch. It was 2.75 I believe on one side. Oh well.

well all dp's have a 2.75 piping size on the elbow side. I'm not too concerned with that though.

do you have the bracket from the tranny mount to the exhaust?

ordered a new one from the dealership about a week ago. That won't really help it from bigger shocks to the exhaust (bottoming out).

That's what I need as well. How much was it brand new?

I tore my Megan DP's flex joint open on a rock so I went with a GReddy piece. It's got to be the shittiest thing GReddy makes. It's mild steel and apparently real brittle which resonates exhaust pulses and made it sound like i had a strange tinny sounding exhaust leak. so I raised my car a bit and bought another megan.

Don't be elitest and just get a megan. We're talking about a 17 year old 240sx for god's sake.

I know guys at the dealer, so im not sure what the regular price is. Its 3 different part numbers though.

well SS isnt the end all/be all of exhaust. There are better options out there. I see no problem being a little snotty about it when it comes to my own car though. Don't get me wrong, I'll never put anyone down...im not a dickhead (well....not THAT much). Its more for piece of mind, and megan...just doesn't give me that. I don't ever really plan on selling the car...so I don't really care what things cost anymore. If i can't afford it...I wait. Megan has taught me that.

I have made the decision to go with one from Mckinny motorsports though. Granted it may not be that much different from the megan ones, but they produce a lot smaller amount of them - so quality control should be a little bit better. And if not, at least I supported a smaller company. :2f2f:

theres nothing wrong with your mentality, i'm the same way. ive gone with the knockoff/cheaper route with some parts, and i was never satisfied. i got rid of them all, now i will only put quality parts on my car, if that means paying twice as much just to have the brand name, so be it. roll with it man, your doing it right the first time, thats the only way to go.

i got a d.p. from one of those ebay deals and i have to admit it looks great, fits great, is 3", AND has a flex section. . . got it about a year and still no problems. got the o2, d.p., test pipe and 3" focuz exhaust for $300. . i was on a budget and figured at some time it is gonna get f'd up anyway.
