I have some leather seat covers that I am putting on, the type where you must remove the original material and put on the new ones, and hog ring them like the originals were. So far I have done the back seats and it turned out awesome. I started on the front seats though and removing the old covers I found how terrible of shape the foam is underneath. Some of it came off with the original and the rest is deteriorated(sp?) and crumbles away.

To get to the point, I am going to rebuild the foam on the seats but I am not too sure what to use. Would I just go to an upholstery shop and get foam from there? I am new to upholstering, I have never done it before this.

If anyone has experience with this, please chime in.

Dead on. You can buy the foam in bulk and sculpt it however you see fit. I used to work with leather as well and we'd trim foam for friends who autocrossed to get a tighter bolster or add foam for more lumbar support. It's pretty easy to work with once you get started.

Well I did the backs already so there won't be a write up on that. I can do one for the fronts though and throw it in the premie project.

sculpting the foam is easy so dont worry about that just try to get both sides as symmetrical as possible or you'll notice that "unbalanced" feeling.

with my kirkey stylish seat i just used a memory foam slab that you're supposed to put over your mattress. it's not too thick and not too thin it's juuuuuuust right
