Just wondered what peoples take are on weighted shift knobs? I think that they are great, but extremely pricey. I wanted to see if there is a market for them with 240 owners. Pro's and Con's of them and if $50 would be a good price compared to the $80 TWM charges.

My 6" bubble shift knob is pretty heavy by shift knob standards, but I love its feel.

Paid like $65 back in the day when Meph sold them :)

I have "The Hammer" from AMS. Was under $50 shipping. I like how if feels/looks. Its way better then the stock one in all aspects. Unless you are a pussy and can't handle the extra like 2-3LBS.

timtiminy

the ones i have are all M10x1.25 thread, which is the nissan thread pattern for shift knobs, they are 2" diameter which is what i thought was the best feeling your hand. I only have chrome or black rubber coated. I havent gotten a precise weight but they feel about 1.5 lbs - 2 lbs

Same here, I love it. Looks almost stock and feels great. The knob itself is like $20, but shipping is more because it's so heavy.

They kind of look like those trailer hitch balls.

greddy counterweighted shift knob is only like 40bucks online and works great.

I just wanted a knob that didn't heat up so i got hooked up w/ a tomei duracon (gift) and it works awesome, too bad it isn't weighted.

I love the Rat Fink shifter. I'm into the old school rod stuff as well. When I look at some of the stuff that guys do to their 240's, it just screams 'rat rod'. LOL

i'm definitely a shift knob whore, i usually dont keep the same one long. ive had weighted and non weighted and i dont really feel a difference. i loved my 8" bubble/flower knob until it broke in half, then i changed it up and got a trust bullet knob or whatever its called, which i still have. i like it a lot, i kinda wanna try one of the white duracon ball types from greddy or tomei next, or maybe that ams hammer one, that looks neat.

aww lol i wanna see what it looks like in the car. To the guy who said he is a shift knob whore, i am to. I buy more knobs then anything. i dont keep one on for no longer than 2 weeks at a time. i have 2 oem ones, a bubble and some ebay white one.

Not sure exactly how heavy it is, it's pretty heavy though. It's great; it has a tendency to twist further to the right every time you put it on though. I just took a 10mm nut and torqued it down on the shifter underneath the knob. It sits a tiny bit higher but at least it faces straight forward.

looks good. If this guy comes and buys my motor tomorrow ill buy one from you. IS the rubber thick on the black one? Will it come off in your hands easliy?

timtiminy
04-16-2008, 08:42 PM
I am going to play around with the rubber coating and get it thick so it doesnt come off, problem is getting it to look smooth when its thick, this one is my personal one and the coating is a little thin

ill take a polished one then. hope this guy comes buy. been flaken on me for 2 weeks.

Stock Protege shifter is kinda hefty for plastic already, but the Skunk2 I put in felt.... better, in a vague kind of way. But I also don't mind how weightless my carbon fiber knob feels.

It's totally up to personal preference, you have to try some out and see how you like them.

i had a skunk2 one for a while. i actually loved the way it felt. then it got stolen out of my car at school.

then i had a nismo buttplug. it felt really nice, wasn't as smooth as the skunk 2 because of weight, but it fit perfect in my hand.

now i have the pink Cruise knob, out of the three it actually feels the worst, but it was a christmas present from my best friend, and i think it looks sick as fuck.

what the...

seventy five grand for a shift knob?

just make one out of lead.

yes, i realize that exposure to lead can cause mental disability.

but i would say its safe to assume that a person who pays $75,000 for a shift knob is bit more disabled than a person who handles lead daily.

timtiminy
04-16-2008, 11:56 PM
For $75,000, whoever bought that needs to have it locked away. shouldve spent the money on something more usable though... My pops has a TWM knob and its alright but for the $80 it costs I dont think its worth it. He actually just asked me to make one for him so i guess we will have a direct comparison in the next week or two.

Nope. It's an actual Black Cue Ball. One of two in the entire universe. :w00t: :wiggle:

I know some of you guys might think its an old shift knob and some of you guys may have owned one but I still think its one of the best:

http://www.thenismoshop.com/items/it_32865-RN011.jpg

It weighs just right at 7.5 ounce which is designed to shorten shift throws for a more even and smooth feel. Plus its cheap now at under $45. Not bad for a Nismo Shift knob.

Not the entire universe, I am still a little hurt that I was coaxed into selling the ONLY 2 I was able to get my hands on.
The place is like a mile from my job, I will swing by and see if they have any more over the next couple weeks. This time, I will make sure I keep one for me, come hell or high water, damn you Mel
