You could do a sohc from a s12 200sx from a junkyard into into it. since you got the junkyard and all. Everybody else is gonna tell you to do something else but it's dirt cheap and its got a turbo. Right?

What do they call rice that comes from junk? Godzilla.

'Everybody else' checking in...

The S12 CA18ET is a monumental waste of time

told you. There is nothing else that will fit from the junkyards though, besides KA. now don't don't think for your self , do as everyone else.
O wee O OOh O O wee O OOh O
Were all clones, Clones I tell you. Whatever, good luck

Umm the ca18et from the 200sx has less horsepower then a SOHC ka and is well known to not take to mods well (re: the thing breaks at the seams when under pressure) There is difference between being different and being dumb.

anyway..the Ca18Det is on it's way here and b4 u reply anything read the post twice.

you read it twice, CA18ET came in the S12's, he was offering that as a cheap solution to your blown ka. is english your first language? CAs roxx0r :/

So you are telling me that the ca18 ET block is NOT the same as the ca18 DET block. If this is what you are telling me then I will agree. Same block or not the same block.

iirc, same block, different crank.. obviously different head... hmm, yeah..

AKADriver

Not the same. Perhaps the block casting itself, but most everything else is different.

Quick question. When he says bursting at the seam does he mean the head seperating from the block. Like it has less bolts or maybe a weakear head gasket. Could not these things be overcome. I was just wondering since I know "you guys" are not to keen on the sohc CA in general. But I mean there is literlly a shit load of them and I do want something original.. please dont give me the "with enough money anything is possible" IS there the same amount of bolts, different head gasket? What? please give me some directional guidance

Bursting at the seams is a figure of speech. The reality is that the crank/rods/pistons are weak, and they also have a known issue with cracked exhaust manifolds.

If you want to be different with an engine that WORKS, turbocharge a KA24E. Not too many people doing that these days.

AutoDestruct
11-14-2002, 10:33 PM
But those are all the kind of things you can fix and harden when you buy the engine for 50 bucks. would not the Dohc internals fit or is there diferences in the casting of the block? please help me out on this and i will neve bring up the Ca sohc again.

P.S. I have a ka24e sitting in my front yard, thank you for reminding me. You just helped me get my bearings a little.

while i have nothing to add to this subject because of my general lack of knowledge on it, i must say that i admire you for wanting to be different and go a different route than most people. good luck, however which way you go.

okay, say they did fit (to be honest I'm not sure... never really cared to find out). So now you've got a decent bottom end and:

A crappy flowing 8 valve head
An exhaust manifold that's still prone to crack
An antiquated 8-bit ECU

And at this point now that you've got the bottom end to take it, I'd wonder about the strength of the head casting...

OK 1ST.. what does RB,2JZ made of! Iron or Aluminum??( duh)
2nd sure the Ca ecu is 8bit but with some mod An SR or Rb series ECU will fit., 3rd Ca18DET also came in with Early S13 silvias, sure it's old and maybe crappy to u guys with all the money and shit, but do some researh and will find out that Sr did not intend to replace the Ca in anyway but Cost effective!!
Sure a new Exhuast manifold is needed with aT28 turbo, i'm not gonna keep the original 1, head and internal is pretty strong and it can keep up easily to 300hp point , head gasket is teh 1st thing to go, easy fix then the fuelpump and injecter..i used to have this engine B4 i moved here to the US
so i'm pretty familiar with it.,..all i need was opinion not flame!!
it's sad when some people bite B4 they understand what they r talking about!!

Go ahead with the CA18DET, I think it's an excellent engine, short on displacement but nicely executed. My 'flames' were directed at AutoDestruct and the CA18ET (SOHC 135hp engine from the S12 200SX Turbo), not you and the CA18DET.

Did you even read your own thread, it was hi-jacked by the first reply. Everyone is talking to autodestruct about what a crappy idea a ca18et swap would be. BTW you would not need a new ex. manifold for a t28 turbo on a ca18det.
