I have heard of that but havent done research, only reason to bring compression up would be to all motor?
What are your goals?

it would riase the compression ratio.
Depends on what SOHC pistons you have also. There are 2 different compression ratios.

i believe it's the rods that are different that make the compression. i could be wrong, it could be the wrist pin offset that changes piston hieght giving you high compression. i know ive read about it somewhere search nicoclub and zilvia for it and KA-T i know i've seen it. search and read my friend.
rod/wristpin has nothing to do with it. sohc have flat top pistons.

i did it
it was awesome
then my motor blew and it was no longer awesome
i estimate 180hp or so before it blew.
that was '90 pistons, intake, header, exhaust, and s13 exhaust cam on the intake side.

^What happened to your motor?

Watch out for what year pistons you use. Pre 89 pistons have a raised dish height that will overall sacrafice your engine to using stock cams. If I were you focus on high lift and duration cams, bigger cc injectors, and a clover leaf welded head job. That will bring you closer to 200WHP than using high compression SOHC pistons.

poor build quality, unrelated to having sohc pistons
i must add that i was running a mix of toluene and gas that gave me ~98 octane too

Toluene and Xylene are both high potency Aromatic Octanes. Producing more HP than most of the over the counter Octane boosters that you get in stores. The weight and burn in KJ is far superior to that of most pump gas you can even get these days, especially since pump gas is mixed with ethanol as a low weight low energy burn.

IF it's that 11.x:1 C/R your looking for, I would suggest getting the JE 89.5mm Bore 11.0:1 C/R pistons. Because the JE Pistons have Valve Relief's already cut in them where as the SOHC ones don't, so. To be safe I would get the JE's for the sake of your valves, plus it allows for more clearence so you can get bigger cams w/o bending your valves. :)

right, sohc pistons won't work with big cams, just stock cams
