With all the new compact sport cars coming out that run in the 14's stock, ie: Neon SRT, Potege(sp?) turbo, i think it is time for nissan to bring the S15 over just like it is .... i think is would really sell big time with all the demand for fast small cars .... they just need to keep the price from about 18-22k .... the sad thing about if they brought it over is that it out runs the 350z...... they need to t-turbo that b*tch ..... just seeing if anyone is interseted in starting a list of emails of people interested to send to Nissan ........ .... yeah, maybe they will un-discontinue a car and then spend a crap load of money to bring it over to the states, just so it takes buyers AWAY from the 350z.

Sounds like a Fantastic plan to me......

but yea man, i gotta say ur idea was pretty stupid, and as been brought up a couple times i remember reading them. the s15 is already discontinued. so y would nissan bring it back? and y would they even bring it over? not Everybody is into fast cars, and they are not going to bring it over just to compete with the new Neon etc. they already got the 350z bringing any other supercar over will compete with sales of the 350z so y would they wanna do that??

Lol he is pretty much right, you have to think of it from a business point of view, not from a car enthusiast point of view. The same company can't sell a bunch of cars in the same league, that are intended for the same market.

Thats why cars are always replaced in lineups, take the 2 door integra for example it was replaced by the RSX, kind of a shitty example but you get the point.

And even then what are the chances that we will get a turbo version.

Anyway aren't there rumours of a TT 350Z or was it a TT G35 or some shit like that.

yea that was funny, but Nissan does intent to bring another super car to the states, but it won't hurt the Z's sells. They plan to sell this car (the upcoming GTR) the same way they are selling the 350Z. Get everyone hyped up and once its releases its on backorder and a hit in every magazine....yet a bit more $$$ compared to the 350Z, keeping the Z a hot item. Altough this GTR will be in limited numbers, yet still making it a hot item to car enthausist(sp).

Yea it would be a bad idea to bring the S15....wasn't it made in RHD configuration only?

If Nissan wanted to compete with the compact "fast" cars they would beef up the Sentra or bring out a hatchback with a VH45DETT. (yes I know...corny idea)

the reason Sr20det was never brought over was becuase it would conflict with 300ZX. Guess what. it aint changed. The 350Z is nissan's golden child. Retail values:
S15 SpecR GT 6spd - $27,000 (converted from Aust. value)
6spd 350z base - $27,000 (does anyone think an S15 would outbrake or outhandle even a base 350z??)

do we really need the S15??

Unfortunately, a G35c 6spd runs $32,000. IMO, the G35c is as close as we'll get to any of the S-chassis cars (a 2+2 coupe made to perform. it's more along the "luxury sport"-ness of the S14 though). Now, stick an ugly ass QR onto the same chassis as the G35c (which shares fairly close dimensions with the S14) and you've got your cheap sporty compact coupe.

In the end, though.... how many of us have spent more than $20,000 on our cars?? If we had that much money to begin with, would we have really bought 240's??

the SR20DET is dead.
s15 silvia is dead.

hey! forget about it!

wait for bigger and better things to come in the future. and expect it not to show up in the USA.

even if the s15 silvia came over, could YOU afford it? probably not. most peopel cant even afford their s13. people with 30,000 dollars spending on a car, would probably prefer the Subaru STi over the Nissan s15. How about EVO? coming soon too, Nissan would be demolished. Stick with the GTR (if it ever comes) and the 350z. Flagship car stateside (The Z that is)

I gotta back ca18guy up here. He is completely correct what Nissan is doing now is something they should have been doing 5 years ago. Carlos Ghozsn has brought the company back.
a few rumors dispelled here by the way.
SR20DET's were not brought here in the 240sx for two reasons one was they did not want a 200hp car challenging the 300zx and two it was a turbo engine and America in general has never been turbo friendly.
now this was the same management team that took the company to the brink of bankruptcy.
so do not blame past mistakes on the current management team.
Oh yeah for all you punks crying about the U.S. not getting the Japanese cars we actually are starting to get the Japanese cars here. Ever stop to think why the Infinity line was created? To bring top end Nissans in.
Guess what kids the G35 is the Skyline! go read some Japanese magazines you will see the adds.
Guess what we are getting the GTR . The president of Nissan Carlos Ghoszn already stated his commitment to this, to the automotive press at Several different International car shows.
now as far as a car in the sub 20 thousand dollar car range being a rear wheel drive deal. It remains to be seen but seeing as the 350z comes in at 27K and the Sentra SER is 17K its going to be a tough call.
Demographics and production costs change. To produce a S chassis car today and make it profitable it would have to cost 20k plus not a lot of room to play in the current car range Nissan has today.
Ya all you Evo fans can scream about how great it is. Its a great car. Guess what though its a Mitusbushi. That spells unreliable.
4 car companies in Japan make reliable cars Toyota, Honda, Nissan and Suburu.
hmmm me thinks we are going to see WRX's for a while to come .
Ya all you Mitsu fans can keep spending money on fixing your cars when the break down. I am sticking with Japanese cars that are reliable from the the get go.
Evos are cool but they break even the tuners in Japan admit that.

Probably the same reason people are still crying for the S15.

We're fans of Nissan's old guard. Our cars are steeped in Nissan tradition going back to the '60s, and for that matter traditions going back to the beginning of the Japanese automobile industry. In a spiritual way we're all driving bastardized Austin Sevens and we like it that way

Ghosn and the new Nissan are producing stunning, world-class cars. Nissan is profitable again! But it isn't our Nissan. Nissan is being profitable with no dirt cheap RWD car, no lightweight FWD car, no crazy JDM performance models. Just damn good bread and butter.

By the way, if the S15 had made it here, $27k would not have been the price. All new cars are more expensive in the Australian market than in the US per exchange rates. Conversely it of course wouldn't be $19k like it was in Japan. Somewhere in the middle is more likely, around $23000, slightly more than we paid for S14s adjusted for inflation since '98.

Cool stuff, they are bringing over the GTR with the ever so new in the states V8! Oh wait, nearly every car here has a V engine. big whoop. If I wanted that Id be interested in Mustangs, or Vettes. Dont you compare american v8s and japanese v8s.
American v8s - gobs of torque and power for cheap at the expense of performance
Japanese v8s - same as our i4s, only approximtely twice bigger.
Cobra is way less efficient than the 350z for example.

akadriver, you said exactly what i am feeling. I saw a 350z last saturday. I was parked right next to it at a car meet near my house. I was walking around trying to find something particular i don't like about it. I couldn't. But for some reason, i thought my car was still way better looking than the 350z. And actually i thought more comfortable as well (got a chance to sit in it before). Maybe it looks too luxury. Maybe to curvy. Dunnow. But i just thought if 240 was made to handle and perform as much as the z, id take it over the z without thinking twice. And altimas and maximas are just like the z....
