i just reinstalled my new sr and used the trans that came with it instead of the other sr trans i had and i noticed that the black sleeve at the end of the trans was still in place on this one. it wasnt in place on my other sr trans. now the bolts from my driveshaft are digging into it. what gives?
ive seen that sleeve on other builds and it doesnt seem to be causing problems, but on mine, it obviously is. do i need to remove it or does my driveshaft maybe have the wrong hardware on it?

bolts on the driveshaft? take a picture. The trans end of the driveshaft should just slide into it, no hardware needed.

ill have to do that when i get back to the car this afternoon.
the bolts im talking about are the ones that go to the yoke that slides into the trans.
this isnt mine, but you can see the hdwr im talking about.

its a dust boot, the SR drive shafts dont that that giant rubber bushing crap on them so just remove the the "black sleeve" and replace the rear seal while your at it and you'll be fine

sileighty is right, either loose the dust boot or trim it down. Wouldn't be a bad idea to replace the rear seal while you are there. Make sure bolt heads are towards tranny with the nuts at the rear if this is reversed the clearance from the end of the bolt to the dust cover will b smaller, its hard to see what is going on without a pic though- good luck

i cant tell from just touching the boot, but is it all rubber or is it rubber on steel? i might just trim the excess. on the hrdwr note, i think one of the bolts is facing the wrong way. im fixing a lot of the previous owners screw ups and thats whats getting me.

the sleeve is metal with a rubber coating, its not nessary to have the sleeve, everyone just pulls them off. (it pops right off)

Hammer, punch, and 15 seconds of your time will remove it. Same goes for the one on the transmission if you still have it in place.

its actually gonna be a little bit longer than that... the driveshaft is in place and im gonna have to remove that first. looks like its gonna be sometime this week now...

took a hammer to it and it popped right off. no big deal.
was pretty beat up though, didnt realize there was that much pressure from the driveshaft sitting on it.
now im going to get a 1 piece driveshaft for it. this 2 piece unit sucks. not to mention that its missing a bolt an has a loose bolt from the previous owner.
