I got an open diff, had a diff shop install the Nismo 1.5 LSD in it.

The manual that was included says to drive it 180miles without going over 40 mph and to "avoid quick maneuvers"

Had anyone installed one of these before, and what did you do for the breakin?

just follow the instructions. ^if thats what it states, follow it. just drive calm. dont beat on it. change fluid after the break in period.

when i installed my kaaz 2 way, the instructions stated to do figure 8's for 30mins, clutch in on turns, nothing over 10mph (if i remember correctly), and or drive easy for X amount of miles. change fluid after break in.

I did my figure 8's for like ten mins.

Then I just drove it, it's been going on strong still (knock on wood) for about 2000 miles now.

I have a Tomei though.

yup, just clutch in on the 8-turns, change fluid, and you're golden.

I had a nismo 1.5 and I did figure 8's for about 20-30 minutes, clutch in for the turns and varied the radius slightly of the turns...lasted though selling the car (5000+ miles) and im certain its still going!

All above have solid advice, I can't really add more other than to be easy on it for the first 50 miles and when you change the oil make sure you change it well. You will feel the grit in the oil, thats your diff pooping itself. Get ready to change it's diaper every 4-5k depending on driving style and loudness of diff

No, but if it has sat for awhile I personally would change the oil and make sure everything is ok with it before i beat it up.

^Dont mean to sound like a complete fool but when you guys say "clutch in on turns" you mean depress the clutch pedal while turnign the loop in the figure 8 so that no power is being driven through the diff?

^that's what I did...

When I was breaking in my KAAZ, i drove for 30 minutes doing figure 8s clutching in on turns, then started doing small circles both ways, lol.

Diff has been through 7 events + 6000 miles w/o any problems.

I also just threw in the diff without checking backlash T_T. i just marked grease on the gears to see if they were meshing right, lol.

figure 8`s , let the plates wear on each other .

chill for a min , go drive around town - i celebrated with donuts and shit

come home

i didnt check lash either , just eyeballed and threw it in.

works fine!

IIRC, Nismo LSD dosen't need any figure 8 for break-in. the manual is correct.

kaaz, tomei, etc. needs figure 8.

I didn't do much. I just baby'd the car for a week or so then started driving normally. A mechanic who helped me install it said the break-ins are usually an unnecessary precaution. Changed the diff oil every 3-5000 miles with engine oil. Never gave me any problems.

the whole figure 8 thing isnt 100% required for anything, even KAAZ
they want people to do that because
1) u might not daily your car so cant put miles on
2) u can do that and then change oil and go beat on the diff

driving around town does the same thing.
do either way
get it knocked out relaly fast
or just take it easy for a few hundred miles around town.

its not rocket science.
