View Full Version : What can I use to plug off these header holes?

Sorry for this really dumb thread, I just have a quick question.

I have these holes in my stock downpipe after cutting off the piping because the nuts were impossible to take out when I was trying to remove the header.

After putting the header back in I just plugged the holes off with rubber plugs, but after 10 minutes of driving I was breathing rubber death, so obviously the plugs aren't cutting it.

What would you suggest would be the best way to plug the holes off other than welding them shut?

Also, if anyone on here has bought an aftermarket header which I know also has these openings, does the header come with bolts included that can be used to plug the holes off?

Lol what the fuck rubber+manifold is badddd

anyway, i got 18mm drain plugs from advance to plug the extra o2 sensor holes in my header. But i don't know what those holes in yours are.

if you can get the remainder out you can use a NICKEL 5 cents and put it in...and rescrew in remainder will work perfect..
but welding would be easiest

take it to a shop theres no way they will charge you more than $20!
it will take 1 minute.

taking the manifold OFF would be the bitchy part of the job.

just go to home depot or any hardware store and find something that fits that hole and plug it.
quickest way.
cheapest way.

Haha I knew it was a terrible idea from the start, but I thought ehh how bad could it be.
Pretty bad apparently haha.

I don't have any sockets deep enough, but I'll give it another try with PB Blaster and a wrench. I know welding it would work best, but I just don't feel like taking the header out and putting it back in again because it's a real pain to wrestle it between the motor and steering column, plus I plan on getting an aftermarket header soon.

i think they sell 02 plugs on ebay or jegs (JEGS 30741 (http://cgi.ebay.com/JEGS-30741-O2-Sensor-Fitting-Plug_W0QQitemZ170204133644QQihZ007QQcategoryZ46093 QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQ_trksidZp1638.m118.l1247Q QcmdZViewItem))

Cool thanks I'll try to get the bolts out to see if they're the size of the O2 plugs.

PB Blaster Smells so awesome, especially when it gets warmed up on the exhaust manifold. Delightful

Definitely, before making omelet I like to spray it on the pan to get that flavor and then sprinkle some rubber plugs on top.

Well I ordered the Jegs plugs, and I managed to get the top bolt out, but I think the bottom one is stripped. :(

I am 100% dead serious when I say this. ON the manifold, where the EGR tube goes. Put a nickle in it, and then tighen the bolt back down.

I have done this twice with no issues.

go to nissan and give them this part number and order it. I have a friend that gives me stuff at THEIR cost so it was only $8 for me but it shouldn't be (hopefully) more than 15$

I should know, I just ordered it when I did my EGR delete last week! Good luck.

PS I don't know about that bottom one though, I don't remember seeing a hole there on mine.

+1 I've done this shit with SRs. The hard part is getting the damn plugs off because youll need it to hold the nickel in place.

What he should have done if he couldnt get them off was cut the EGR pipe a good 3 inches or so. Crimped the end with a vise grip, and then fold/roll it towards the bung. Should be sealed enough.

Or just take a nickle out of your pocket and spend 10min putting it in.......

Well I already ordered the O2 sensor plugs earlier today. Now I'm just trying to get the bottom one out but it's getting stripped.

Haha, Exactly. Throw a coin in there, and screw a bolt through.

Or weld a coin in there. I did that when I blocked off my EGR.

get some rust bomb spray it on every couple of hours over a couple days. Then use a box end wrench(6-pointed)

Rust Bomb Spray? Never heard of that, hopefully someone around here carries it.

And the EGR should be taken care off as soon as the plugs get here. Hopefully I'll get the bottom one out, it was some sort of an emissions thing.

I noticed that all aftermarket headers have those openings as well, I wonder if they come with plugs. Though I guess I'll have plugs now.

Haha they're rubber tips for chair and furniture legs. You can buy them in lots of different sizes at any hardware store, they work great for plugging things off, except things that get very hot.

oh in that case i just used 18mm drain bolts from advance auto parts for the extra 02 sensor hole in my header

We get it in a 1 gallon metal container. The stuff is awsome!

No, why would you want to block off your o2 sensor???????? And They come with the EGR stuff, because it is part of the emissions on your car, so I doubt the come with headers.

Seriously? I was at Advance and they said they don't have anything in 18mm!

No I'm keeping the O2 sensor, but there's two extra holes besides the O2 one.

PB blaster the fuck out of it for a couple of days, if you already stripped it, time to use the biggest vice grip you can find.

Blahh I don't like dealing with stripped bolts and nasty old parts, I just ordered the knockoff Hotshot header off Ebay, along with a new test pipe.

Even though I was looking forward to driving this weekend, I guess I'll have to wait a little longer.
