here is the thing:

I have almost everything set to install my carputer into the S13 but what I`m having trouble with is the internet connection, since the laptop I`m using has built in WIFI I could wardrive and get some hotspots near where I live but that would only work when I`m parked, I`m using Garmin city navigator for the GPS but the maps for mexico are really ugly and almost useless, the good thing about this software is that it connects with google earth and I get the satellite photo of the position the GPS is marking but google earth needs the internet connection.

3G is not cheap here because since we have only three major cellphone service providers with one of those dominating 75% of the market, well, you get the idea how those bastards have us grabbed by the balls.

With all that said here are the questions:
1.- what are the prices you pay for 3G internet?
2.- Do you know of a plan that would carry that service over the border?

The purpose of question 2 is that I travel fairly often to Cali (3 or 4 times a year) and I could set a plan if a service provider offers their internet with no roaming charges since I donĀ“t care about getting charged for making or receiving calls out of my area since I will only be using the phone as a modem. Anyone know of a carrier/plan that would make this possible? LMK.

Thanks

I pay an additional 40 bucks /mo for unlimited 3g from AT&T, for my black jack, but I'm unsure of your 2nd question.

Some carriers offer their services which will work on other countries, do you know if your 3g internet is usable if you cross to mexico and if roaming charges apply?

you should go with sprint sero

it is their employee referral plan. If you google it you will find out how to get into it. It is really cheap and they have better mobile data coverage than ATT does.

There's no way that you will be able to use a U.S. provider in Mexico and get away cheap.

For unl/3g internet here, you can pay as little as 19.99.

I say, stick with your wi-fi setup for a few more years until LTE (4g) is about to roll out. 3g prices will take a dump.

I thought about using an omni antenna, but -aircracking the shit out of those WEP encrypted AP would be a PIA while driving hahahaha. I`ll just have to settle for posting in the parking lot of a Starbucks
