R32 GT-R seats in S13

I'm getting my S13 project started, and I picked up a pair of R32 GT-R seats for a little over $600. I know that they need to be modified to be installed.

My problem is that I don't know exactly what has to be done. I do know that three of four tabs match up, and the problem lies in getting the fourth tab to line up. I've been told of a few ways to accomplish this but I was hoping to find out the best way to do it.

Any info would help at this point.

Ghetto way of doing it is cutting a piece of metal and using it to wedge the rail in place.

there is only one way and that is to extend the rail with a tab welded on, when you install them its pretty easy to see what needs to be done

If you look close you will see that the "feet" of the seat rails are spot welded on. If you drill out those spot welds, drill all the way through them, you can swap the feet from your old seat to the gtr seats. The spot welds were both in the same spot on my seats so it was a simple swap. I just used a couple of button head bolts with nuts and tightened them on real good. Pretty simple and no welding needed. Bolted right in after that.

i just drilled through the body using bolts and large bushings. Works, pass inspections at NASA, all 4 mounts are mounted to the car.

whats the max your rails slide back for passenger side? im having issues with mine? im too tall?

they both slide back the same amount. im 6 foot tall and i have no problems with these seats.

No, the best way is a variation of what is described above by someone else. Basically you take the stock tab off your stock seat rails because its the right length. You do that by popping out the two little spot welds with a torch. Then you do the same to the R32/R33 rail tab. Then you reweld the s13 rail tab on in the same spots and it will line up perfectly. No reason to weld a extended piece of metal on. I did this on my car and sold a set like this and its the cleanest way to do it.

yep, the best and cleanest way is definetly to re-weld your stock feet onto the gtr seat.

there's nothing wrong with the tab method though, as long as you make decent welds

For some reason I'm having a hard time getting both front holes to match up. Once I get one of the front hole lined/bolted the other side doesn't line up w/hole... :confused:

I know that the rear outter doesn't reach.

Anyone come across this problem mounting yours? tips? I'll try to get pics of what I'm dealing with after I get done messing around with it

the seats probably broken. i had the same problem when i bought my seat from another zilvia member. the seat didnt feel right, so i took it apart and found the beams that support the seat all broken off at the welds. that cause some of the brackets to fold in and messed up the whole alignment. i got every re-welded with extra support and fixed the bent brackets with some heavy duty pliers. its better than new now.

I had the same problem. Some fat ass probably sat in the seat and bent the rail a little before they sold you the seats. You just have to start one bolt and then push the seat really hard to get the other to line up. Over time the rail will bend back to normal.
