Hi Guys,
Once again I am on here to ask for help primarily Russ (R240NA). What is the type of material to replace the rear windshield gasket (outer trim). I've heard I can use an aftermarket one just trimmed down to size. If it is OEM, can i install it? or would I need a professional glass guy?
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jeff

I recommend having a pro do it...just one of those things if it starts leaking air or whatever you have someone thatll correct it...thats if they guarantee there work in which they should if there "PROS". Just my 2 cents

find some guys on craigslist or a window shop to do it, should charge maybe $50 and take less than an hour.
That window is usually 150 installed for a replacement.

Rear, or quarter? The quarter glass is bonded to the moulding, not replaceable separately.
The rear glass in an S14 is glued down with regular urethane sealant. The moulding is two separate pieces, there's a 'dam', a strip of rubber with a ridge in it that's glued down with the glass, and the outer moulding which snaps into the dam, just like the windshield. The outer moulding is is about $30 new. If you're replacing it the new piece should snap right in, if it doesn't then a little urethane sealant or RTV will hold it down. The lower moulding along the deck lid edge is screwed in.
Any aftermarket moulding has to be trimmed and glued to fit.

Cool beans. I have to redo my rear hatch window as well. The corner of my glass is missing an "L" shaped cover and there isnt sealant under it so u can see right into the car. Also makes the rear glass not sturdy. I can push the corner and move the glass. Thanks for the info.

Is this a universal gasket? and if so, can i find it at a local vatozone?

That's OEM, it's got the hump in it. Universal moulding is flat, but it won't look right on the bottom corners where it meets the lower trim.

Did you read my post above? It's about $30, snaps right in as long as the retainer isn't kinked or damaged. You can add a thin bead of RTV for good measure if you want.

Use semen.
Or not. Clear RTV is good for window seals.

Awesome. I was wonder about this same thing, part of mine has come apart (outer molding) and if I try to put it back in it comes right out. Im thinking to just use some sealant to keep it in place now. I was going to order it but doesn't seem necessary.

I did a write up about replacing it about 4 years ago. So easy a caveman could do it. Front is a little more difficult but still very doable.

When they glue on the windsheilds they use the 3M window weld polyurethane tubes. Just FYI.
